POSITION: 7D Driver
REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for the operation of a 7D vehicle to safely transport students to and from programs both in city and out of city. This position is also accountable and responsible for observing and adhering to the safety rules and requirements of the physical care of these children by following the specific directions received from supervisors consistent with the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools. 7D drivers are responsible to abide by all the rules and regulations as provided by school policies and local, state and federal governmental agencies. 7D drivers must work with students, parents, staff, colleagues and others in a courteous and respectful manner.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (to be incuded along with other responsibilities)
1. Pick up and deliver students as per set route and schedule both in city and out of city.
2. Responsible for transporting children who are ambulatory or non-ambulatory by a 7D vehicle provided by the Worcester Public Schools to and from classes and events
3. Responsible for providing all necessary assistance to the 7D attendant/monitor
4. Responsible for supervising special needs children during transportation periods.
5. Responsible for keeping the principal aware of any changes in schedules and attitudes of the children.
6. Obey all traffic laws.
7. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for 7D vehicles.
8. Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.
9. Transport only authorized students.
10. Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.
11. Responsible for performing safety checks on vehicles in the beginning and end of each day.
12. Check vehicle seats and floor, including under seats, for students after each trip.
13. Notify supervisor(s) immediately in case of mechanical failure or delay in more than five (5) minutes in scheduled deliveries or pickups; complete accurate reports as required.
14. Report all crashes and/or on-board accidents and injuries immediately per protocol and promptly complete accurate reports and forms.
15. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the vehicle by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies using a variety of pupil management skills.
16. Report student misconduct according to established procedure.
17. Communicate with students, parents, staff and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner and present as a positive representative of the Worcester Public Schools.
18. Ensure assigned vehicle is clean and fueled.
19. Use two-way radio per established policies.\
20. Perform basic first aid as appropriate, including CPR.
21. Maintain regular attendance.
22. Demonstrate high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
23. Attend all scheduled training, in-service and safety meetings as required by the Worcester Public Schools,

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Must be 21 years of age.
3. Have a valid Driver's License.
4. Must have a Massachusetts 7D driver's certificate (or trainable to receive).
5. First Aide Certificate (or trainable to receive).
6. Physically capable of performing duties (lifting, carrying, etc. of children, ambulatory and prosthetic devices).
7. Pass all Criminal History Checks.
8. Pass a Worcester Public Schools pre-employment physical examination, along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings.
9. Pass random drug and alcohol screenings through Worcester Public Schools.
10. Have a clean driving record.
11. Have no previous license suspension(s) for drug or alcohol related offenses.
12. Ability to listen and understand information.
13. Ability to communicate information so others will understand it.
14. Citizenship, residency or work Visa in the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. One year 7D driving experience.
2. Familiarity with roadways within the City of Worcester, MA.
WORK YEAR: 183 Days
WORK HOURS: Minimum of 4 hours per day guarantee with the opportunity for additional hours
SALARY: $21.00 per hour
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
