Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC), is seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals to fill permanent and non-permanent Truck Driver 3 (TD3) positions in our Service and Delivery Division. These positions are located at Correctional Industries Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington.

Correctional Industries is committed to maintain and expand Incarcerated Worker training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of Corrections. This position supports that objective by safely operating a variety of vehicles according to the laws of Washington State in the delivery of various goods for Correctional Industries. This position maintains security and control over Incarcerated Individuals working at Correctional Industries Headquarters in Tumwater, WA.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Operates trucks, vans and buses of all types and sizes to transport materials, equipment and personnel.
* Operates vehicles rated 60,000 Gross Combined Weight (GCW) or more including semi-tractor/trailer equipment.
* Maintains record of equipment use using the "Drivers Daily Vehicle Inspection Report" and Fuel and oil consumption.
* Maintain "Driver's Daily Log" as required by Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMSA) and US Department of Transportation (USDOT).
Pick up and deliver product from customer, vendors and supported activities.
* Serve as Correctional Industries representative when interacting with customers, vendors and other stakeholders.
* Participate directly in loading and or unloading and placement of product to include utilizing hand trucks, pallet jacks and or forklift.
* Ensure paperwork is completed for material picked up, delivered, refused or returned by the customer. Report paperwork or product discrepancies to supervisor as soon as possible
Supervise and train incarcerated workers.
* Perform hourly counts for incarcerated workers and record on required forms.
* Monitor incarcerated workers behavior at customer locations and provide feedback to incarcerated workers about their work performance and behavior.
* Be familiar with worker pick up and return procedures to comply with host facility and local procedures when transporting incarcerated individuals on the bus.
Ensure vehicle safety and road readiness.
* Perform before and after safety inspection of vehicle, add oils and lubricants as required and report any needed repairs to Fleet Supervisor.
* Complete pre/post trip inspection report and submit to Fleet Supervisor in a timely manner.
* Ensure vehicle is returned in a clean and serviceable condition and refueled to a minimum of one-half tank at the end of each day.
Other duties as required.
* Occasionally operate lighter trucks and equipment.
* Assists SDD staff with preparing estimates regarding necessary equipment, manpower and completion times.
Required Qualifications:
* Minimum two years of full time experience operating any combination of vehicles with a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCVR) of 60,000 or more pounds.
* Must currently possess and maintain a class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
* Ability to lift 40 lbs.
* Must acquire P1 Bus endorsement for CDL within 4 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Five years' operating any combination of vehicles with a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCVR) of 60,000 or more pounds.
* Customer service experience.
* Experience working or volunteering in a correctional institution.
* Ability to lift 50 pounds.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
* Strong communication skills.
