Position Summary

General Summary/Responsibilities:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) functions in a multi-faceted role that demonstrates professionalism and

promotes excellence in the practice of respiratory care. The RRT is responsible for the respiratory assessment,

therapeutic treatment, evaluation, testing, education, and communication for all patient populations served. The RRT

will coordinate care with interdisciplinary team to promote a great patient experience. The RRT is responsible for

maintaining compliance with the Ohio Respiratory Care Laws, applicable regulatory standards, and institutional and

system policies.

Essential Duties & Functions

* Obtaining, analyzing, testing, measuring, and monitoring blood and gas samples in the determination of

cardiopulmonary parameters and related physiologic data, including flows, pressures, and volumes, and the

use of equipment employed for this purpose.

* Administering, monitoring, recording the results of, and instructing in the use of medical gases, aerosols.

Provide bronchopulmonary hygiene techniques, including drainage, aspiration, and sampling of specimens.

Apply, maintain, and instruct in the use of artificial airways, ventilators, and other life support equipment.

Coordination and collaboration with other licensed health care professionals responsible for providing care

to patients with cardiopulmonary impairments.

* Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and respiratory rehabilitation techniques.
* Administering medications for the testing or treatment of cardiopulmonary impairment

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Valid Ohio Respiratory Care License, Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential through

NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care), BLS, ACLS within 90 days.

PALS and/or NRP certification required within 6 months of hire or based upon course availability

per facility requirements.

Knowledge/Skills

Ability to analyze, prioritize and evaluate patient needs in an efficient and effective manner.

Ability to assess, recommend, implement and modify respiratory care procedures by protocol or by

physician order.

Initiate, maintain, troubleshoot and wean patients from various respiratory equipment. Ex.

Mechanical ventilation, BiPAP, medical gas therapy.

Must be able to complete all clinical and didactic yearly competencies for clinical areas assigned.

Must possess and display effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Possesses ability to educate staff, physicians and patients related disease process, treatment

and/or medications.

Ability to work and prioritize under stressful conditions which may occur under emergency conditions or

under a heavy workload.

* May be exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members and/or visitors.
* May be required to flex hours to other locations or shifts including nights, weekends or holidays to meet

patient care needs.

* May be exposed to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases including but not limited to tuberculosis,

HIV, hepatitis or body infestations.
