Summary
Under the direct supervision of the attending RN, performs various direct patient care activities and related clerical and non-technical duties necessary in caring for the needs and comforts of patient; assists in the maintenance of a safe environment; functions as a cooperative, active member of the Health Care Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows patient care standards, works within scope of practice.
  • Delivers direct patient care.
  • Provides general basic patient care.
  • Assists those patients requiring help with ambulation.
  • Assists patients to dress and undress; assists in securing patient belongings with patient
  • Immediately reports any observed changes in condition or behavior of patients to RN/MD/DO.
  • Follows Patient Care Standards.
  • Completes patient rounding including vital signs.
  • Documents in an acceptable medical legal fashion.
  • Answers call bells or uses intercom to determine patient needs and advises nurse of needs beyond scope of position.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in implementing patient safety measures and documenting interventions in the chart in accordance with policies.
  • Immediately reports any unusual incidents.
  • Enters incidents in Event Reporting System.
  • Assists with and anticipates the needs of RN/MD/DO.
  • Assists in admission, discharge and transfer procedure(s).
  • Transports patients.
  • Delivers samples to Lab.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment.
  • Assists in the making of beds and stocking of linens, drawers, IV trays; helps with the processing of paperwork.
  • Makes appointments as necessary and documents same.
  • Assists manager and/or director with reports, projects, record keeping and trends.
  • Makes copies of labs, EKGs, patient charts when appropriate; sends faxes for medical record releases.
  • Assists with scheduling of IV Therapy patients.
  • Reviews ED patient charges and completes charge entry daily.
  • Back fills to complete shift assignments if patient load permits.
  • Supports registration staff (i.e. answers phones, directs patients/visitors who present at the front desk).
  • Answers phones in a timely manner; places calls as needed to physicians, hospitals, etc. as requested to facilitate patient care.
  • Utilizes equipment properly.
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment operation and safety.
  • Retrieves and sorts ED mail daily.
  • Practices cost effective use of supplies; orders office and medical supplies for the ED.
  • Contributes to the goals and visions of the staff at Incline Village Community Hospital and actively supports them in daily work.
  • Pursues professional growth and contributes personal expertise to the development of the team.
  • Seeks educational opportunities to expand skills and competency in areas worked.
  • Takes direction well from different staff/EMS personnel.
  • Works as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
No educational requirement and 6 months to 1 year relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers - Upon hire

BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification). - Within 3 months of hire into job

Other Experience/Qualifications

Required:

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 1 or higher or Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CCMA/RMA) - Upon hire

Preferred:

  • One year field and/or hospital experience
