Title: Cheerleader JV Advisor

FUNCTION:
1. To plan, direct and supervise all phases of the total Cheerleader Program in accordance with the MIAA, Athletic Department and School policies.
2. To oversee the physiological and skill development of student-athletes in the program.
3. To develop each student participant to maximum potential in a program of skill, learning and improvement.
4. Directly responsible to the Athletic Director, in liaison with the High School Principal.

NOTE:
This appointment is subject to sufficient participation to appropriately support this coaching position. When designated by Athletic Director, Coach will drive students to/from athletic events where 14 or fewer student-athletes are traveling with the team.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes responsibility for organizing, coaching and administering the total Cheerleader Program.
2. Follows the policies and procedures in the Athletic Department Staff Handbook.
3. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
4. Assumes responsibility for candidate try-outs, team selection and team performance throughout the Basketball season.
5. Chaperones the team at all practice sessions and scheduled contests.
6. Enforces disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior.
7. Assumes responsibility for equipment inventory.
8. Promotes school spirit by involving the Cheerleader Squad in pep rallies and other selected activities.
9. Promotes public relations between the Cheerleader Squad and community groups with a common interest in the athletic program.
10. Accepts those duties necessary to maintain and improve the Cheerleader Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Dedication to the School, to the Student-Athlete and to the Athletic Program.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of the sport and the ability to demonstrate and teach individual skills.
3. Ability to motivate the student-athlete to maximum potential.
4. Professional in appearance and actions.
5. Prior experience in Cheerleading or related activity preferred.
6. Certification in CPR, First Aid or the equivalent preferred.
7. Employment as a member of the teaching staff preferred.
