Lexington, United States Voyager Therapeutics Full time

About Voyager Therapeutics

Voyager Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VYGR) is a biotechnology company dedicated to leveraging the power of human genetics to modify the course of - and ultimately cure - neurological diseases. Our pipeline includes programs for Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease, and multiple other diseases of the central nervous system. Many of our programs are derived from our TRACER AAV capsid discovery platform, which we have used to generate novel capsids and identify associated receptors to potentially enable high brain penetration with genetic medicines following intravenous dosing. Some of our programs are wholly owned, and some are advancing with partners including Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease; Novartis Pharma AG; Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc.; and Sangamo Therapeutics, Inc. For more information, visit www.voyagertherapeutics.com.

Voyager Therapeutics is a registered trademark, and TRACER is a trademark, of Voyager Therapeutics, Inc.

Job Summary

As a gene therapy company, Voyager is constantly engineering novel AAV capsids which are changing the face of gene therapy for neurological diseases. Along the way, we are identifying the mechanisms which mediate blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetrance of these viral gene transfer vectors. We are looking for a talented and motivated Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to advance a new Voyager initiative by supporting development of other new macromolecular drugs which can leverage these mechanisms for non-AAV cargos. This is an ideal position for an individual with a background in protein biology, who has a can-do attitude and strong work ethic, and thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and multi-disciplinary biotech environment. As a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate on the Non-Viral Delivery team, you will be responsible for experimental design and execution, data analysis, and communication of experimental results leveraging binding moieties, such as antibody and peptide carriers, for these cell surface receptors, as well as supporting efforts to bring this science to new therapeutic programs. Hands-on experience with biochemistry, molecular and cellular techniques are required. Prior experience with recombinant protein engineering/optimization is a plus.

If you're someone who thrives on finding the elusive answers to tough questions, come explore with us

Responsibilities

* Participate in Non-Viral therapeutics programs for BBB-penetrant protein biologics leveraging identification of new BBB transport modalities.
* Execute in vitro and ex vivo assays to expand our capabilities in advancing our platform and proving our biology.
* Collaborate with our novel capsid discovery team to accelerate advances in receptor ligand biology.
* Conduct experimental procedures precisely and consistently by following established protocols, as well as document and maintain a well-organized account of lab work and results.
* Regularly communicate results within the research organization and at conferences.

Requirements

* Bachelor/Masters degree in Biochemistry/Molecular/Cellular Biology or related discipline.
* Minimum 1-5 years with MS, 2-5 years with BS of work experience in a research setting.
* Hands-on experience with molecular techniques (ELISA, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, enzyme assays, qPCR, cloning).
* Hands-on experience with cellular techniques (cell line passaging and maintenance, transfection, transduction).
* Experience in developing and optimizing molecular biological and cell-based assays.
* Outstanding problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to be highly productive and self-motivated in a fluid, fast-paced and team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with early drug development within a biotech environment.
* Hands-on experience with processing and analyzing rodent-derived tissues.
* Familiarity with expression of recombinant proteins and antibodies.
* Familiarity with antibody fragments and nanobodies.
* Experience with chemically conjugating biological molecules.
