STEP AmeriCorps

By partnering with nonprofit organizations and schools, the STEP AmeriCorps program seeks to address the region's community needs by providing AmeriCorps members who can expand the capacity and reach of the partner site. Members also engage in service projects throughout the community, leveraging additional volunteers and promoting community engagement through service. Member Duties : Provide a warm and nurturing environment in which preschool children with developmental delays and/or disabilities can grow physically, emotionally, and socially. To assist with maintaining a safe environment for children to develop skills. • Maintain confidentiality • Maintain a cooperative and supportive attitude in the classroom. • Assist the teacher in planning activities for the classroom. • Communicate positively with parents/caregivers. • Promote integral learning and model good social skills. • Help the children control behavior using a positive approach under guidance of the teacher. • Assist the teacher by passing on information regarding the children's health, behavior and development. To attend to children's immediate physical needs such as diapering, toileting. • Assist with center housekeeping duties such as snack, dishes and cleaning. • Complete a minimum of twenty-four hours of training annually relative to Child Development.
