Description

Under the direction of the Cardiopulmonary Manager, delivers quality respiratory care to patients from ages newborn through geriatric, including Cardiopulmonary services in the Critical Care areas. Must ensure that patient and family needs are met including; patient/family education. Provides open communication within the department, patients, families, physicians and other healthcare providers. Builds and maintains professional relationships. Knowledgeable of all safety measures for staff and patients.

  • Carries out patient care according to hospital policies and procedures, functioning within the limitations of job scope/governing body.
  • Documents care/treatments administered and patient response.
  • Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and assessed needs.
  • Recognizes patient problems/complications and intervenes appropriately.
  • Accountable for the safe administration of treatments.
  • Knowledge and reporting of effects and side effects of drugs used by Cardiopulmonary Department.
  • Accurate and timely charting on the MAR of drugs given.
  • Participates in the development of and adherence to written care standards for the department.
  • Plans and coordinates work flow to ensure a completion of assigned duties in a timely manner.
  • Identifies need for patient/family teaching.
  • Daily assesses patient/family physical and psychosocial needs and communicates to appropriate care givers.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding patients to supervisor, physicians, and other health professionals. Reports significant changes in patient condition/response to treatment to supervisor/physician promptly.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of and appropriate clinical application of all Cardiopulmonary patient care equipment.
  • Regularly attends training in-services and continuing education opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for professional growth.

Requirements

PRN or "as needed" employees provide a crucial role within the organization, giving departments more flexibility to operate and ensuring that Delta Health provides superior services to our patients.

  • PRN minimum requirement: 2 shifts per month, 1 holiday per year
  • Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • Must be Licensed by State of Colorado as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Registration or certification by the national board for respiratory care (NBRC) preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS through American Heart required upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification required upon hire.
  • PALS American Heart required within 60 days of hire date.
  • Minimum one year of recent acute care, emergency care, and intensive care experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Experience with respiratory equipment.
