Utilizes customer service skills when addressing patients/visitors, physicians and co-workers face to face and on the telephone.

Provides visual monitoring of all patients on central monitor. Immediately notifies nursing of changes in patient monitor alarm and ensures that responsible nurse or charge nurse responds to changes in monitor alarms.

Organizes and performs clerical duties in Epic related to admission, discharges, and transfers of a patient to assure pertinent data is recorded for present and future use. Complete worklist tasks triggered by physician orders or nurse-generated tasks. Updates and maintains patient records as prescribed by the hospital and unit policy to allow functional use by nursing and medical staff.

Functions as information source for medical and nursing staff, patients, and visitors. Relays written and verbal communication and will be responsible for reporting all pertinent patient/family observations to the professional staff.

Assists in maintaining adequate amount of supplies on the nursing unit and obtains other items as needed from Central Supply and Par Level.

Actively participates in Infant Security by monitoring infant security system to ensure all patients are entered accurately. Notifies security of any imminent security threats. Provides access to the unit for all family members, visitors, and non-maternal child staff. Maintains up-to-date list of visitors as indicated by parent/social services.

Performs activities designed to support unit as directed such as ensuring compliance with environmental standards by performing light housekeeping duties and participation in performance improvement activities including compliance checks, data accuracy checks, stocking, laundering baby clothes etc.

Prepare and deliver all infant feedings as ordered.

* Verify new or questionable infant feeding orders with a registered dietitian or charge nurse for accuracy and follows standardized recipes as needed.
* Use correct and accurate technique to measure powders and liquids.
* Stores prepared infant feeding properly until delivery to the patient area
* Delivers prepared infants feedings to patient area refrigerators
* Maintain daily records of patient profiles or updates computerized patient profile regarding infant formula orders
* Uses clinical information system to update patient feeding orders and to print labels and production lists; communicates with allied health care personnel regarding feeding orders
* Completes daily batch records for prepared feedings
* Verifies Refrigerator and Freezer temperature using Temp Trak
* Removes unused, previously prepared infant feedings from patient area refrigerators 24 hours after preparation time and discards according to established protocol
* Receive and process expressed human milk from mothers of infants in the NICU.
* Receive and verify, with registered dietitian or charge nurse, infant formulas orders for infants in the NICU.
* Verify, with registered dietitian or charge nurse and fortify human milk based on current doctors orders following standard policy and procedures;
* Prepare, assemble, label, package and deliver to patient care areas formulas, expressed human milk, and infant formula feedings following pre-established feeding preparation procedures and adhering to quality control standards;
* Ensure adherence to HACCP procedures, cleanliness of work area, and quality of nutritional productions.
* Thaw frozen human milk according to standard policies and procedures;

Maintains sanitation in preparation area

* Cleans and sanitizes all work surfaces in the Infant Feeding Preparation Room before and after each feeding preparation
* Cleans utensils, equipment, and storage areas used in the Infant Feeding Preparation Room according to established procedures.
* Follows aseptic technique Follows department and infection control policies regarding feeding handling
* Maintain daily appearance and personal hygiene according to departmental guidelines
* Reports to charge nurse if ill
* Maintain the cleanliness of freezers and refrigerators.

Inventories and maintains sufficient infants feeding room stock

* Keeps Infant Feeding Preparation Room adequately stocked with formulas, fortifiers, water, bottles, syringes and other supplies to safely prepare infant feedings
* Notifies Nurse Manager or designee of any shortages to ensure accurate and timely ordering of supplies and formulas
* Checks expiration dates on products before use
* Reports all short-dated products that need to be used
* Follows procedures for formula recalls at the direction of the Nurse Manager or designee.

Calculates new formulations or standardized recipes manually or via the use of specifically designed softwareand obtains verification of those formulations with the Registered Dietician responsible for the nutrition care of the patient, as needed per protocol.

Assists in training other employees in infant feeding preparation and proper handling techniques, as needed.

Communicates with patients Registered Dietician, nurse, physician, or unit manager regarding problems with feeding orders, formula storage, or administration.

Checks equipment for proper operation and reports problems to the appropriate supervisor.

Attends required education programs to maintain and learn new procedures and skills and mandatory in-service days.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

* High School Graduate or equivalent
* Successful Completion of Milk Technician Competency Test
* Demonstrated competency in mathematical skills

Specialized Knowledge:

* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Computer literate

Kind and Length of Experience:

* Suggested revision: 6 months related work experience including clerical duties, customer service, and data entry.
