NTRODUCTION

The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department in the College of Engineering at the University of Connecticut (UConn) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate level, with an expected start date of August 23, 2025. The BME Department offers an ABET - accredited bachelor's degree, as well as MS and PhD degrees in BME. Candidates who pursue fundamental questions in any area of machine learning science and engineering, including artificial intelligence (AI), and have clear interest and track-record in translating AI developments to the biological, biomedical, or clinical domain are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with a demonstrable potential and/or record of achievement in the following biomedical research areas are also encouraged to apply for the position:

Biomaterials with emphasis on tissue engineering and immunomodulation by biomimetic scaffolds with novel biomaterials design, fabrication and local drug delivery to support tissue regeneration.

Biomechanics (experimental or computational methods) with clinical applications.

Biomedical Imaging, Physiological Monitoring, and Instrumentation with emphasis on imaging hardware and device / system development for clinical applications.

Computational and Systems Biology / Bioinformatics and Systems Genomics with emphasis on machine learning, mathematical models, simulations and artificial intelligence

N eu r a l Engineering with emphasis on brain machine interfaces, neural control and modulation systems, neural prosthetics applications, and neural imaging/sensor applications.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research & scholarship through extramural funding, high quality publications, impact as measured through citations, and national or international recognition through honorific awards. In the area of teaching, the successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and demonstrate leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* An earned doctorate or international equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or an engineering discipline closely related to Biomedical Engineering.
* An outstanding scholarly record, including publications in leading journals, and demonstrated potential and/or record of achievement in the research areas identified above.
* A record of or demonstrated potential in establishing a successful, externally funded research program.
* A record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* A commitment to enhance inclusion and broaden participation among members of under-represented groups as demonstrated through research, teaching, and/or public engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Expertise in preferred area of artificial intelligence, machine learning science and engineering.
* Experience in developing research grant applications to funding agencies.
* Research credentials that complement existing faculty expertise.
* Experience in collaboration with industry.
* Active participation in major professional societies and international meetings.
* An established record of excellence in teaching.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2025. The successful candidates' primary academic appointment will be in the College of Engineering at the UConn Storrs campus. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
