Licensed Vocational Nurse

WORK PERFORMED: To monitor and provide skilled nursing care as outlined in the individual care plan. To monitor and assist with the administration of medications as ordered by the physician. To monitor and assist with nutrition/feeding and the participant's personal care programs. To provide health education as needed to participants, their family members and program staff. To maintain required nursing documentation.
EQUIPMENT USED: Hospital bed, hoyer lift, oxygen tank, weight scales, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, thermometer, first aid supplies, gloves, syringes, accu-check machine. Computer, printer, fax, copy machine, and telephone.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed Vocational Nurse licensed by the State of California Board of Vocational Nursing. Must have at least one year direct care experience. Ability to teach/instruct on health related topics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed. Must have mature judgment and decision making necessary to assume care for program participants. Current knowledge and understanding of medical terminology. CPR and First Aid certification required. Must be able to perform all job duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Ability to evaluate and provide for the direct care of the program participants (which includes providing hands on care as well as visual supervision). Ability to evaluate/delivery emergency first aid which may include CPR on an adult as well as a child. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently. Must be able to effectively relate to staff, clients, and family members. Have knowledge and comfort working with varied disabilities/neurological conditions. Must project a positive company image by maintain a professional appearance, attire, attitude, and conduct.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand, walk, lift, transfer and carry up to 75 lbs. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull as needed to provide direct care/assistance to program participants, Average vision (corrected vision acceptable), ability to communicate with as well as hear participant/staff instruction. Ability to physically assess/deliver emergency first aid which includes the ability to perform CPR as outlined above. Ability to walk on varied terrain (indoor and outdoor) which includes carpet, tile, concrete, dirt and grass.
METHOD OF PAY: Hourly, NON-EXEMPT
HOURS OF WORK: 40 Hours/Week (P/T position); 7:30am-4:00pm SUPERVISED BY: Registered Nurse
SUPERVISES: Program Aides, Personal Care Attendants and program participants.
