TITLE: Psychometrist/Counselor QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of valid "AA" Teacher's Certificate
- Two years of teaching experience

REPORTS TO: Principal/Director of Exceptional Education

To appropriately complete the initial evaluation for students suspected as having a disability and the reevaluation process for those student who have a disability in accordance with the requirements of State and Federal regulations and the procedures of ESS.
Essential Functions
- Participates in district assessment meetings to determine appropriate areas to be assessed and appropriate tests to be administered to each child referred for assessment.
- Plans, conducts, and/or interprets assessment data for children preschool through high school in accordance with accepted practices in psychoeducational evaluation
- Implements State and Federal requirements as well as guidelines from ESS regarding assessment within required timelines
- Maintains a working knowledge of the current State and Federal mandates for assessing students for initial evaluation and reevaluation
- Compiles assessment data for submission to the multidisciplinary eligibility team in accordance with ESS procedures
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings for determining the need for evaluation and/or eligibility determinations, as required
- Attends IEP meetings and other related meetings, as needed, to assist school personnel and parents with the understanding of the assessment data and results of testing
- Keeps continually informed regarding current research in the area of psychometrics
- Maintains schedule and accountability of service provision in accordance with EES requirements
- Assumes primary responsibility for assigned therapy materials, tests, and equipment
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
JOB GOAL: Counselor
To promote the successful academic, social, physical and emotional development of the student; serves as a liaison among students, parents and school staff to assure the maximum development of the students; assist students in understanding themselves by focusing attention of interests, abilities and needs in relation to home and school
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:
- Conducts needs assessment survey of administrators, teachers, and students
- Plans guidance activities based on the results of the needs assessments
- Develops a guidance calendar which lists on-going and monthly activities
- Organizes a guidance committee which functions in an advisory capacity
- Provides individual counseling
- Provides group guidance and counseling activities based on the assessed needs of students. Group guidance and counseling may include the following topical areas:
- Orientation to the guidance program
- Peer pressure
- Bullying
- Stress management
- Drug education
- Study skills
- Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and other appropriate individuals regarding services and programs available to/for students
- Supervises the maintenance and disposition of student records
- Coordinates the administration of individual and group achievement and aptitude tests
- Interprets test results to appropriate parties and supervises the entering of results into the cumulative records
- Assists in the identification of students with special needs, e.g. special education, medical and emotional
- Reviews students' progress
- Registers and provides orientation to new students as needed
- Provides orientation to students from feeder schools
- Conducts registration for all students
- Apprises parents of actions by counselors on behalf of students
- Provides students with information on guidance services, competency testing and graduation and college admission requirements
- Counsels, advises and/or places students in their next step of normal educational progression
- Receives and act upon referrals from teachers and other professional staff, parents and agencies
- Develops, maintains, and utilizes list of contacts and working relationships with agencies and appropriate personnel in the public and private sector
- Assists parents in the effective use of referral resources
- Organizes office for effective use and for easy access to students to include the following:
- Maintains a calendar of events
- Maintains a schedule of appointments
- Submits reports to the appropriate supervisory personnel upon request/schedule
23. Keeps informed of developments within the profession; maintains active membership in appropriate organizations; participates in staff development programs

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary in accordance to the certified teacher salary schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees
EVALUATION:
Performance of the secondary guidance counselor will be evaluated annually by the supervising principal/exceptional education director in accordance with the Mississippi Counselors Assessment Instrument.
FLSA Status: Exempt
