Position Title: Seasonal Part-Time Drum Line Coach

Reports To: Director of Fine Arts

Campus: San Jose Upper School

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Bolles is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school founded in 1933. Our Upper School is beautifully situated on the banks of the St. Johns River in the heart of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Bolles proudly employs over 400 full time, part time and seasonal faculty, staff, coaches, and administrators. and enjoys a rich history in tradition and achievement that extends to our hiring practices and the professionalism and respect garnered in the independent school community.

Position Purpose: We are seeking a passionate and skilled Seasonal Part-Time Drum Line Coach to join our Fine Arts department at The Bolles School. This role involves working closely with the school band to enhance the performance and skills of our drum line team during home football games and potentially other school events. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in percussion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire young musicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and direct the drum line during practices and performances, ensuring a high standard of musicality and coordination.
  • Develop and implement practice schedules in collaboration with the Band Director.
  • Practice 2-3 hours a week
  • Arrange and oversee the setup of percussion instruments for practices and performances.
  • Teach and reinforce drumming techniques and rhythms tailored to the abilities of 9th-12th grade students.
  • Collaborate with the Band Director and other music staff to integrate drum line performances with overall band presentations.
  • Attend all home football games and selected school events that feature the drum line.
  • Maintain the condition of drum line instruments and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a drummer with expertise in marching band or drum corps settings preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with young students.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to coincide with school events.
