PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership and assistance to campus staff in the development and implementation of positive behavior supports for students with significant behavioral concerns (including but not limited to students with emotional disturbance, significant cognitive disabilities, and/or autism).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) from accredited college or university in Education, Psychology, or Behavior Analysis OR
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (preferred) or valid certification in Special Education / Licensure in related field OR
Related work experience
Special Knowledge/ Skills:
Specialized training in behavior intervention strategies for all students
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training or willingness to be trained
Experience:
Minimum of two years teaching experience OR related experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assessment / Evaluation:
Collect, organize, and interpret student information from guardians and teachers, as well as relevant assessment data from the cumulative folder and outside evaluation reports.
Conduct classroom observations and interviews with guardians, staff, and students as appropriate.
Review available data to determine appropriate data collection and procedures.
Complete Full and Individual Evaluation reports within the district Special Education management system, including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA).
Review evaluation results with guardians, including interpretation of evaluation data and educational needs of students.
Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to make recommendations regarding the educational need for services and to assist with the interpretation of evaluation data, appropriate placement, specified timelines, and development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students according to District procedures.
Campus and Program Support:
Provide ongoing support and education to assist with implementation of quality special education programming for students who exhibit social/emotional/behavioral difficulties.
Participate in the student support process to recommend interventions and/or determine necessity and scope of referral for Full and Individual Evaluation.
Recommend and assist teachers in the use of appropriate documentation to measure the behavioral/social/emotional progress of students.
Train and coach administrators, teachers, and staff regarding effective behavioral intervention and instructional strategies, including preparing and providing professional learning to staff.
Communicate current legal findings related to federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, local board policies and operating procedures in the area of evaluation, planning, placement, and delivery of special education services
Communication:
Maintain a positive, professional, and effective relationship with supervisors, administrators, educators, staff, students, and parents.
Use effective verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and school information and records at all times.
Provision of Services:
Model direct instruction with special education students to improve behavior, individually or in small groups, in order to build capacity of staff.
Develop behavioral interventions and/or instructional strategies, equipment and/or educational aids to promote maximum student independence.
Write initial Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and train teachers on implementation.
Consult with campus special education staff to support and provide suggestions, interventions, and implementations for students.
Foster an environment that is conducive to student and staff safety, confidentiality, and student engagement giving consideration to the maturity level and interests of students.
Consult with the transportation department regarding behavior of students on buses.
Administration:
Compile, maintain, file and/or upload all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents within the district Special Education management system.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and Frisco ISD.
Comply with all department and campus procedures.
Utilize the District Special Education management system with proficiency and accuracy.
Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment, including attendance at department and team meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Keep informed of and comply with Federal, State, District and school regulations and policies regarding special education services.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Physical demands may include: Assisting with positioning students with physical disabilities. District wide travel. Hours may vary.

The Special Education Department maintains an expectation that all staff will assume shared responsibility for the health, safety, and confidentiality of all students and adults; which may include implementing, supporting and documenting behavioral intervention strategies and/or providing school health, related, and personal care services.
