Position Title: Physician (ED)

Seeking an ABEM physician to work a minimum of 10 night shifts per month. If not ABEM, then an physician with Emergency Medicine experience and POCUS skills.

General Summary: The Physician provides high quality medical/surgical care within the scope of his/her chosen specialty. This care should be comprehensive, coordinated, and patient and family-centered to achieve clinical and service excellence.

Essential Job Functions*:
  • Demonstrates hospital's mission and values with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to job.
  • Adheres to all pertinent Medical Staff and Hospital policies. Promotes and maintains an environment, which is in compliance with federal, state and local regulations, accrediting agencies, and as delineated in the SMH Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Positively influences the morale of the clinical team through professional interactions and by meeting the professional and personal needs of staff members to the extent possible.
  • Participates in continuing medical education to maintain and enhance one's medical knowledge and professional competence relative to the unique characteristics of the patient populations served.
  • Actively participates in the hospital's quality and patient safety programs and demonstrates an understanding of safety issues and practices in all aspects of work. Consistently observes universal precautions.
  • Builds effective relationships within and outside the organization. Resolves issues of a sensitive nature. Demonstrates flexibility and adjusts to changing work demands. Pursues responsibilities in a focuses, positive and enthusiastic manner. Interacts effectively with all practitioners. Effectively communicates with Department Head, Medical Staff, co-workers, outside organizations, visitors, patients and their families. Actively participates in committee assignments.
  • Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution.
  • Works collaboratively and pro-actively in a multidisciplinary team approach with Nursing staff, Medical Staff, Imaging and Laboratory staff, pharmacies, patients, families, and others to facilitate assessment, diagnosis and the development of an individualized treatment plan, frequent re-assessment of patient's status as medically necessary, timely advancement of patient's care, efficient treatment of patients, and coordinated, efficient, and thoughtful disposition.
  • Effectively communicates plan, expectations, and clinical progress with SMH staff, consultants, referring providers, patients and families as appropriate.
  • Identifies, responds and reacts appropriately to immediate needs as they relate to the provision of patient care.
  • Promotes favorable patient/family relations in all interactions and meets SMH customer service standards, striving to enhance the level of customer service provided.
  • Maintains utmost confidentiality in all aspects of duties.
  • Stabilities patients in life-threatening or unusual situations and, when appropriate, arranges for emergency transport to a physician and/or tertiary care center with appropriate clinical skills/resources.
  • Performs medical procedures as granted in clinical privileges by Board of Directors.
  • Properly utilizes laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests, and integrates data into assessment and treatment plan.
  • Performs rounds, tends to patients and documents encounter in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates clinically appropriate use of Hospital and healthcare resources.
  • Ensures thorough, safe patient handoff communication to physicians who will provide subsequent care.
  • Pronounces death in deceased patients, and completes death certificate in thorough, legible, and timely manner.
  • Ensures patients are assigned the proper status within the hospital in accordance with SMH policies.
  • Documents all patient evaluations and care in a clear, accurate, comprehensive, and timely manner as indicated.
  • Ensures safe and clinically appropriate discharge plans, including initial post-emergency care, follow-up appointment with PCP or applicable provider, and timely completion and e-signing of discharge summary to facilitate such transition of care.
  • Provides necessary information to facilitate billing for all professional services provided.
  • Assists UR in contesting denied care claims when appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • Education

Required: Successful completion of ACGME-certified residency program in chosen specialty.

Preferred: Board certification in chosen specialty.

Required: Licensed by NH Board of Medicine as physician (MD or DO). Must possess valid narcotics registration (DEA number). Requirements as set forth in the Medical Staff Policy Manual for each specialty.

Required: Ability to work independently. Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment. Effective communication skills. Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to use computer for healthcare work.

Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and professionally with other practitioners and staff.
