Boston, United States Suffolk University Full time

The Public Service and Healthcare Administration Department at the Sawyer Business School, Suffolk University invites applications for a non-tenure track, professional position with a tentative start date of September 1, 2024.

Full-time, non-tenure track faculty members at Suffolk are expected to work in three major areas of activity: (i) professional work, where they apply and continue to build their professional and practice-related skills and knowledge; (ii) teaching, particularly in areas where professional skills and experience can be leveraged to enhance students' ability and preparation for future managerial and leadership roles; and (iii) service, both to the profession of practice and to the Department, School, and University with regard to administration and governance. The target dedication of time and effort to these three areas is 40% professional work, 40% teaching, and 20% service.

Within this setting, this position is structured around the following responsibilities, listed by approximate order of importance and dedication within each area:

* Teaching
* The typical course load is expected to be six courses per year, with flexibility during the first year if transitioning from a non-academic position, especially in the absence of prior teaching experience, and also depending on other responsibilities, such as program direction (see below under Service).
* Teach courses in both the MHA and MPA Programs.
* Core teaching in policy-related courses, particularly seminar-type courses structured around students' exposure to, and interaction with, policy makers and the settings in which public policy is established, at the local, state, federal, or even international levels.
* Additional teaching in specific areas of expertise (e.g. healthcare delivery, public or nonprofit administration), to be determined as a function of program needs and other core faculty expertise.

* As part of teaching activity, help develop and implement experiential learning opportunities for students with external collaborators and partners, such as course-based projects, workshops, interactive cases, and other curricular activities.

* Professional work
* Ongoing professional practice allowing the maintenance and development of professional experience and qualifications, skills and knowledge.
* For this particular position, professional work will also include leveraging professional expertise and networks to work with department faculty and SBS and University leadership on the identification, building or strengthening (as appropriate) of collaborative relations and strategic partnerships with institutions and organizations in the Greater Boston area or possibly beyond, such as healthcare delivery organizations, nonprofits, or government agencies, for the purpose of enhancing educational and research and other opportunities of value to both sides.

* Service
* Service of relevance to teaching or professional work, such membership in governance boards of relevant organizations, or unpaid advisory roles or membership in advisory councils, committees, policy task forces, and the like.
* Service on department or school committees focused on strategic goals and activities.

Desired Qualifications

* Required
* Graduate degree: this can be at either the master's level, particularly MBA, MHA, MPA, MPP, Master's in Social Policy, MPH-or at the terminal level, specifically PhD, JD, DrPH, or EdD. Within these possible degrees, we are open to different kinds of disciplinary training.
* Significant experience (mid-career or leadership roles) in policy development, implementation and administration, particularly (but not exclusively) at the local or regional level in New England, and especially Massachusetts.
* A professional record of leading or managing cross-sectoral collaboration across the public, nonprofit, or private spheres.
* Of particular interest, but not at all required, is collaborative experience in the delivery of services for unmet needs in underserved communities.

* Desirable
* Candidates with healthcare experience, especially in healthcare delivery and community healthcare, are strongly preferred.
* Apart from experience in a specific sector or industry, we welcome candidates with expertise in a specific knowledge or practice area, particularly analytics.
* Teaching experience; ideally in higher education, but can also be in related kinds of activities, such as leading facilitation workshops.
