Building on a legacy established by both organizations in 1972, CommuniCare+OLE is a network of federally qualified health centers with 17 sites across Napa, Solano, and Yolo Counties. It offers comprehensive care, including medical, dental, behavioral health and substance use treatment, nutrition, optometry, pharmacy, care coordination, referrals, and enrollment assistance to more than 70,000 individuals, and no one is turned away due to lack of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay. Many services are offered outside of its sites, including mobile health, home visiting, and community and school-based programs.

JOB SUMMARY: The Orthodontist works with the dental program team and reports to the Dental Director. Provides dental services to clients at CommuniCare Health Center dental clinics. The clients are primarily low income, non-English speaking, DentiCal recipients or uninsured.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of dentistry and current California DDS license
  2. Must complete a postdoctoral study in an ADA approved orthodontic program
  3. Educational Qualified orthodontist, Board Eligible orthodontist or, Board Certified orthodontist following completion of their specialty training required.
  4. Bilingual Spanish, Russian, Southeast Asian language or East Indian language preferred.
  5. DEA required.
  6. Current CPR certification required.


SECTION I: PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITY

Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care appropriate for the patients serviced in the clinic practice.

B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Serve as orthodontist to patients from all age groups who present a wide variety of dental problems requiring diagnosis, selection and management of appropriate care.

2.

Record complete patient visits, treatment, and communication with patients in the dental record.

3.

Participate in the quality assurance program established for the clinics as required.

4.

Supervise dental assistant and dental hygiene staff assigned to the clinic, as necessary.

5.

Perform administrative tasks required by clinic licensure.

6.

Assist in the general oversight of clinic operations to ensure effective dental care, efficient working conditions, quality assurance and client focused services.

7.

Coordinates with the Training and Volunteer Manager to meet volunteer needs of the program. Engages volunteers and/or students/residents to meet program needs; may include duties such as interviewing, selecting, supervising, training, and managing performance. Provides direct and timely performance and behavior feedback as necessary for volunteers and/or students/residents.

8.

Provide treatment for various forms of malocclusion and teeth irregularity.

9.

Perform diagnostic tests using x-rays and plaster molds to locate the position of a dental problem.

10.

Fit braces, brackets, and other teeth appliances in patients' mouth to correct teeth positioning.

11.

Schedule routine check-ups to track treatment progress and adjust dental appliances as required.

12.

Provide recommendations to patients on proper dental care and hygiene necessary.

13.

Work with orthodontist assistant to ensure patients receive adequate teeth care

14.

Perform dentofacial orthopedics to improve the general appearance of patients

15.

Determine if applied braces are due to be removed

16.

Assist patients in resolving dental or oral problems such as speech impairments and gum disease

17.

Develop treatment plans to address individual patient problem

18.

Design and model teeth appliances such as retainers, lingual arch wires, and brackets

19.

Liaise with other orthodontists and health care professionals to coordinate orthodontic services for patients

20.

Study patients' dental records and medical history to determine type and severity of teeth condition

21.

Provide patients with cost estimates and details of a treatment plan

22.

Inspect dental equipment and appliances to ensure they function normally.
