KIPP NorCal is in search of a dynamic and enthusiastic Associate Director of Operational Health (AD) to join our Regional Operations team. This team is dedicated to delivering top-notch support, guidance, and resources to school operations teams across our network of schools. Reporting directly to the Director of Regional Operations, the AD will take ownership of the systems and practices vital to enhancing the operational health of our schools. Two core functions the AD will drive are attendance improvement and new student enrollment. Additionally, the AD will steward strategies to ensure that our school-based operations leaders, Directors of School Operations (DSOs), receive comprehensive training, guidance, and oversight, enabling them to thrive in their roles.

Anticipating needs, creating scalable strategies, and offering exceptional customer service will be central to the AD's responsibilities. The ideal candidate will establish and uphold high standards of excellence in school operations, utilizing their strategic thinking, organizational prowess, and relationship-building skills effectively.

This role is hybrid, with an expectation of spending 2-3 days per week onsite at our school campuses or at our Regional Support Office in Oakland. The Associate Director will oversee at least one direct report and will serve as a coach for a portfolio of DSOs.

Qualifications

Experience:

* 4+ years of professional experience in a fast-paced, high-capacity work environment, including 3+ years serving as an operational leader on a K-12 school campus (required)


* 2+ years of professional experience as a project manager with responsibility for managing others (required) and managing other managers (strongly preferred)

Education:

* BA/BS (required), MA/MS (preferred)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Build the DSOs' capacity to run high-functioning, operationally excellent schools

* Design and own the DSO arc of year that captures the key milestones and performance metrics for all operational areas.


* Planning around the arc of year, design the scope and sequence of the DSO Community of Practice, the DSO Academy (a year-long training series), and the DSO Coaching and Liaison-ship program to ensure these structures deliver PD that equips DSOs with the skills, knowledge and resources to successfully grow their teams, lead their campuses, and achieve operational performance metrics.


* Drive cross-team collaborations with departments at the Regional Support Office (ie. Facilities, Technology, HR) whose work firmly intersects with the DSOs to ensure that the roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and that there are strong resources in place (ie. standard operating procedures, training materials, documented protocols).


* Develop walkthrough and observation rubrics that measure the operational systems, practices, and routines to ensure DSOs are held accountable for leading outstanding school operations and are supported in improving performance and meeting goals.


* Engage in the hiring process for all open DSO positions and oversee the onboarding for new DSOs through their first year of training ("DSO Academy").



Manage and optimize student attendance and student enrollment functions

* Create the conditions for school operations teams to drive student attendance goals, reduce chronic absenteeism, and reach student enrollment targets.


* Design and manage policies, procedures and systems that sustain student attendance, student re-enrollment, and new student conversion, and ensure schools are maintaining fidelity to these KIPP processes.


* Identify and recommend improvements that aim to increase outcomes with regard to student attendance and new student conversion.


* Deliver training on these systems and progress monitoring to key stakeholders across the Region, including Principals, Principal Managers, the Regional Leadership Team, and the Board of Directors.



Grow leaders at our schools and on our team

* Serve as an outstanding role model of a leader and manager, investing deeply in supporting and developing team members and growing their capacity to learn, contribute and engage in the work of the team and organization.


* Supervise at least one Regional Data and Operations Manager to ensure their success as the owner of the tools and resources that sustain school operations practices.


* Contribute to the annual planning process that propels the work of and clarifies the goals for the Regional Operations team (ie. Department Plan, Leader Dashboards).


* Provide individualized support and guidance to a portfolio of DSOs via Coaching so they are empowered to be effective operations leaders in our schools.


* Support Principals in the management, evaluation, and development of their DSOs.



Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental: Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional school environment and travel, 20-30%. Adhere to KIPP's health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies' recommendations.

Classification

This is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle, based out of our Regional Support Office with frequent travel to schools and districts.The KIPP Regional Support Office is currently operating in a hybrid fashion. Most positions can expect to work in person 2-3 days per week and remotely the remaining days, subject to change based on the needs of the role.

Compensation

KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits. We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $122,000. Most candidates would be compensated at $107,000.
