The Resident Assistant & Orientation Leader (RA/OL) serves as a peer mentor and liaison to all incoming students during New Student Orientation. Throughout the academic year and intersessions, RA/OLs create and provide a safe, secure, and nurturing living environment that complements the academics within the campus residence halls.

Principal Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of RA/OLs include:

* Assisting with the preparation and execution of all New Student Orientation programs including First-Year Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation, Graduate Student Orientation, International Student Orientation, and Parent & Family Orientation;
* Assisting with building opening and closing each semester;
* Attending all weekly staff meetings, regular one-on-one meetings, and all-staff meetings;
* Planning and executing programs that enhance and integrate the intellectual, personal, social, physical, and spiritual development of students;
* Maintaining residence hall decorations including door tags and bulletin boards;
* Submitting all administrative paperwork, duty logs, incident reports, maintenance work orders, and other documents in a timely and professional manner;
* Serving as an essential employee in emergency situations;
* Participating in an on-call duty rotation with other paraprofessional staff members and performing 24-hour duty in the event of a campus closure due to weather or another emergency;
* Enforcing all aspects of the Long Island University Student Code of Conduct and other University policies by reporting any and all suspicious behavior and/or policy violations;
* Practicing proper student confidentiality and enforcing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); and,
* Other duties as assigned by LIU Promise staff and leadership.

Applicant Requirements:

The successful applicant must:

* Applicants must be enrolled at full-time status (at least 12 credits for undergraduate students; 9 credits for graduate students) for the upcoming fall semester;
* Remain in good academic, financial, and judicial standing with the University throughout the duration of their employment;
* Maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale;
* Reside on campus for RA/OL training and New Student Orientation sessions;
* Reside in assigned residence hall and room for the upcoming academic year;
* Be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, winter intersession, and summer sessions; and,
* Be available for all New Student Orientation sessions including First-Year Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation, Graduate Student Orientation, International Student Orientation, and Parent & Family Orientation.

Compensation

RA/OLs are compensated with the following:

* A $400.00 stipend at the conclusion of New Student Orientation;
* A single room for the academic year;
* Lodging and meals during RA/OL training and New Student Orientation; and,
* Invaluable leadership and resume-building experience.

Working Conditions:

* Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to properly execute the position's role.
