Job Description
Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Job Specialty: Medical Surgical (Medsurg)
Job Duration: 8 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 12-Hour Night Shifts
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience:
- RN: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
- CNA/Tech: Minimum of 1 year of experience; nursing home experience accepted
- Willing to accept first-time travelers
License:
- Valid CNA certification
Certifications:
- CNA/Tech: Basic Life Support (BLS)
Must-Have:
- Previous Charge RN experience is highly preferred
- Must be willing to train as a Charge Nurse, working in that capacity as needed
- Skills in chest tubes, tracheostomy care, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), and IV antibiotics
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips is preferable
Job Description:
- Handle activities of daily living (ADLs), feeding, tray setup, answering call bells, vital signs, blood sugars, patient ambulation, and range of motion exercises
- Provide patient care for cases including total joints (knees, hips, etc.), general medical-surgical, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel, urology conditions, congestive heart failure (CHF), pneumonia (PNA), sepsis, diabetes mellitus, and patients with addictions alongside other medical issues
- Maintain a patient ratio of 1:10-12 during night shifts
- Collaborate with a team including a charge nurse who takes assignment most shifts, RT available 24/7, and a centralized telemonitoring technician
- May float to ICU for med-surg level patients or the emergency department to assist with tasks
- Utilize the Cerner charting system
- Participate in rapid response with a designated team including in-house provider, respiratory, ICU and ED charge nurses, unit charge and staff nurses, and the nursing supervisor
- Provide support with IV starts, expected to attempt twice before seeking further assistance
