The Dean of Instruction is a full-time, twelve-month position reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.  This position is responsible for assigned areas of instruction, including the management and assessment of credit programs and supervision and evaluation of full-time faculty.  As a member of the Academic Team, the Dean of Instruction works closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs to promote student success through effective student-centered teaching and learning practices.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Direct the development of technical programs and curricula, assure the delivery of instruction with innovative methods, work closely with all campus departments to ensure quality services, and coordinate programs. Serve as a contact person for faculty/students who have concerns/complaints regarding academic issues. 
* Monitor activities required by college, state and federal guidelines including program accreditation activities, program reviews, credentialing requirements, local plan for career and technical education, expenditure reports, college publications/schedules and equipment inventory. Lead program/division improvement efforts in assessing academic quality, consistency, and standardization. 
* Assist the Vice President for Academic Affairs in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned instructional programs and services.
* Actively participate in accreditation efforts for the institution through the Higher Learning Commission, as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
* Supervise and evaluate assigned full-time faculty, concurrent, and adjunct members in accordance with established College and System procedures.
* Develop and offer orientation sessions for faculty, adjunct, and concurrent instructors. 
* Assist in the accurate collection and reporting of data for required federal, state and system reports, surveys, and projects.
* Support efforts to establish and maintain specialized accreditations, as appropriate.
* Ensure payroll information is communicated in an accurate, effective, and efficient manner to allow for timely remuneration of all faculty members serving within assigned areas.
* Serve as a member of college committees, as directed.
* Represent the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the College to individuals and organizations within the service area.
* Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

 

* Bachelor's degree and three (3) years progressively responsible experience in a higher education setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Must be a focused, creative, detail-oriented team player with excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills
* Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to work at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.  
* Ability to prioritize and execute a wide range of projects simultaneously
* Willingness to work occasional long and irregular hours, as needed
* Must have a strong commitment to the rural community college mission
* Ability to work with diverse populations, including faculty, staff, students and the general public

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

* Master's degree
* Experience as a department chairperson in a post-secondary institution
* Verifiable experience in academic related program development, evaluation, and accreditation
* Leadership experience in a post-secondary institution with branch campuses
* Demonstrated experience working with non-traditional and first-generation students
* Demonstrated experience implementing new methods and techniques in instructional methodology including online and hybrid delivery
* Demonstrated ability to implement joint instructional programs 
* Direct experience teaching at the community college level desirable, but not required
* Participation in professional organizations (please list those in which you are an active member)
