Essential Duties
1. Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation. 2. Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach. 3. Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures and policies that will achieve research goals. 4. Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of laboratory. 5. Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensures the integrity of research data. 6. Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets. 7. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master's Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:
Independently designs and carries out basic, translational and clinical research within the scope of established and new scientific projects, under the direction of the PI. Adheres to all biosafety, animal and human subjects regulations as defined by Yale University and the federal government pertaining to research studies. Maintains clear documentation.
Interprets and communicates the results of the studies with the PI. Performs in depth analysis of the data and prepares scientific manuscripts. Writes interim and final reports for the projects in collaboration with the PI. Contributes in-depth, original thought and relevance to scientific presentations, written reports and manuscripts.
Facilitates the work of trainees and junior staff, helps them perform their research ensuring the continuity of technical knowledge in the laboratory, as well as familiarizing the trainees and junior staff with Yale and VA regulations.
Develops original and amended HIC/IRB/ IACUC/Biological safety/radiation safety submissions. Collaborates with the PI on major revisions, scientific protocols, and new grant proposals.
Develops forms and writes SOPs as required. Designs and implements quality control measures to ensure a safe and clean work environment, and accurate data collection. Oversees on-boarding of new staff and their integration in the laboratory. Communicates with new staff their job requirements, including any necessary documentation and adherence to Yale and VA regulations. Establishes protocols to ascertain these requirements are followed.
Is available outside routine work hours as dictated by scientific experiments and for any emergencies (including with laboratory equipment). Interacts with the internal and external contacts, such as other researchers, biotechnology staff, and members of regulatory committees. Regularly communicates with the PI regarding the progress and barriers to performing research.
May perform other duties as assigned.
