JOB SUMMARY

At a high level, the Technician helps the organization maintain all clinical equipment of the hospital to assure optimal safety for patient and compliance with hospital and JCAHO safety standards. The Technician assembles, maintains, and repairs various medical equipment, tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements. The Technician assists medical staff in the operation of the equipment. An associate's degree in biomedical engineering or electronic engineering, or equivalent experience required. The job requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Overall, the Technician will perform a variety of tasks. The Technician works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. This position reports to the Department Manager. As such, this position performs a variety of routine tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of a limited scope of biomedical equipment under the guidance and direct supervision of an experienced BMET. The Technician assists in the ordering of parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering, A.S. Degree in Electronics or equivalent on the job training.

Licensure: AAMI-BMET Certification preferred

Experience: High School graduate or GED required. Associates degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronics or equivalent training experience required. 2 years industry experience preferred or 1 year of industry experience with certification. Working familiarity with JCAHO accreditation standards preferred.

Skills: Advanced electronic troubleshooting and networking skills; requires knowledge of computer diagnostic software and general computer skills i.e. Windows, Excel, Word and equipment management programs.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in all departments of the hospital with exposure to potential electrocution or other injuries; may require working rotating schedule or on-call work. Must be able to lift, stoop, bend and push; concentrate on detail work for prolonged periods of time; able to maintain and calibrate delicate, life support and networked monitoring equipment.
