Job Description
Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the incumbent will perform technical duties within Radiology. The incumbent is directly involved with various imaging procedures that apply ionizing radiation and other forms of energy. Incumbents may perform additional assignments as required per department. An Associate Radiographer Level III is an advanced or senior-level technologist who can perform duties in various modalities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Radiographer Level III - Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist is charged with and responsible for:
- Performs all interventional procedures as well as Computerized Tomography (CT) imaging
- Able to assist the Radiologist or Surgeon during Angiographic and Interventional procedures
- Must demonstrate a clear understanding of aseptic and sterile protocols
- Able to set up a sterile environment and trays
- Work with the physicians, physician assistant (PA), or nurses during the administration of IV contrast
- Demonstrates expertise in IR Technologist technical skills, image acquisition, transferring and archiving of images, troubleshooting skills, and expert knowledge of supplies and equipment used during IR procedures.
- Able to identify adverse events or unanticipated outcomes using critical thinking skills and appropriately notify the medical staff, including nurses and physicians.
- Perform high-quality CT scans and must be able to work independently
- Must demonstrate a clear understanding of CT and IR protocols
- Must demonstrate complete independent competency during procedures
- Perform daily QA/QC
- Must demonstrate a team effort with all staff
- Able to instruct students during their IR and CT rotations
- Show knowledge and use of radiation protection, including proper technical factors, collimation, and shielding.
- Duties for this position include but are not limited to circulating and scrubbing roles during procedures, patient teaching, assisting with patient care within the scope of practice, inventory management, and schedule coordination.
- Able to apply all standards the Department of Radiology and federal and State Radiation Protection Agencies set.
- Assists with on-call and late IR Technologist schedules for IR staff, including weekdays, weekends, and holiday rotations in collaboration with IR Manager.
- Maintain appropriate storeroom and procedure room inventory for all IR procedures.
- Assures that all documentation is completed before the examination regarding informed consent, the universal protocol/time-out checklist, lab results, and pregnancy test.
Minimum Qualifications
1. For supervisory assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice as a Radiological Technologist issued by NYSDOH; and two (2) years of experience as a Radiographer performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels, I and II, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
2. For specialized imaging assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice as a Radiological Technologist issued by NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced-level certification in the appropriate specialty area for the performance of these procedures.
