Under general supervision, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides preventative care and health services to an assigned group of patients at an OU Health facility. The LPN works in collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure patient care is delivered safely and effectively.
Essential Responsibilities:
The following core responsibilities are central to this position. Inability to perform these responsibilities, with or without accommodations, may result in disqualification from the role:
- Medication Administration:
Administer medications safely under the direction of a physician or other medical personnel. - Patient Monitoring & Reporting:
Observe, record, and report patients' conditions and their reactions to drugs and treatments to physicians. - Patient Care:
Provide care based on an established nursing plan, ensuring comprehensive data collection relevant to the patient's health. - Documentation:
Ensure accurate and timely chart entries and forward patient charts as needed. - Care Coordination:
Communicate patient information systematically with other care providers and assist in coordinating the delivery of care. - Health Promotion:
Employ strategies to promote a healthy and safe environment for patients, documenting progress toward achieving outcomes. - Evidence-Based Practice:
Use quality and evidence-based practices to enhance and improve patient care. - Supervision & Guidance:
Work closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision as needed. - Triage:
Triage telephone calls and refer patients to the appropriate clinical team members when necessary.
General Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
- Strong knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate the nursing needs of assigned patients.
- Must have knowledge of operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 2 or more years of nursing experience.
Required Education:
- LPN Degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of educational requirements for the NCLEX-PN examination.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a valid multistate compact LPN License (eNLC).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
