Position Details

The Abington School District seeks a highly motivated Assistant Director of Operations/Facilities. The Abington School District is located in Montgomery County, and serves approximately 8,600 students in one high school, one middle school and seven elementary schools with over 1,000 employees in our 10 facilities. Under the direction of the Director, the Assistant provides leadership, and management of the custodial team, facilities and grounds departments as well as assists the director with the management and oversight of construction, renovation and maintenance of school district facilities to assure a safe and healthy environment. Provides supervision of a team of maintenance mechanics, specialists and grounds crew as well as the supervision of the District's custodial services and various other vendors for Facilities.

Position requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent background and experience in construction management preferred or some equivalent relevant work experience. At least three to five years of experience in facilities and/or construction management preferably in a public-school setting.

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director, the Assistant provides leadership, and management of the custodial team, facilities department as well as assists the director with the management and oversight of construction, renovation and maintenance of school district facilities to assure a safe and healthy environment. Provides supervision of a team of maintenance mechanics, specialists and grounds crew as well as the supervision of the District's custodial services and various other vendors for Facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides supervision and oversight over the team in the Operations Department as well as the district's custodial vendor, and various vendors in the Facilities Area.

2. Oversee and facilitate the daily assignments and supervision for all maintenance trades.

3. Approval of all departmental purchase orders.

4. Preparation, review and approval of all invoices and bills.

5. Oversee, schedule and approve all departmental overtime.

6. Planning, preparation and oversight of all construction, renovation, and summer maintenance projects for the district.

7. Coordination with the Custodial Foreman, and Property Services Coordinator of all projects such as commencement, weather emergencies, etc.

8. Preparation, review and approval of all payroll and attendance for the department.

9. Assists the Director with all construction projects as needed.

10. Manage maintenance team including issues such as personnel issues and discipline.

11. Work with Superintendent and select cabinet team members during snow and adverse weather conditions pertaining to school closings.

12. Be available and accessible for possible building issues, power interruptions, and utility issues.

26. Coordinate building security requirements with the security and information technology teams including, but not limited to secure entry vestibule design, cameras, proximity readers, door hardware, operable egress windows, and door labeling.

13. Works with local, state, and Federal governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals.

14. Other duties as assigned.
