Position: School Psychologist

Qualifications: Valid NC Professional Educator License with School Psychologist (026) certification

Terms of Employment: 12 months

Minimum Starting Salary: $4,400 per month plus local supplement

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children

Purpose: To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self and by treating any psychological or mental health problems

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assess difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices
* Administers tests and recommends placement for all types of exceptional and new students
* Helps identify within the school all types of exceptional children
* Maintains case records on all referred students
* Recommends corrective procedures
* Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefits from behavior modification
* Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary
* Consults on special educational needs of mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed, and learning-disabled children
* Attends case conferences on placement of individual students
* Serves a s consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program
* Interprets the school psychological services to teachers and parents
* Prepares and submits required reports on mentally retarded children and special education programs
* Supervises special education classes
* Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies
* Acts as liaison between the school and juvenile court
* Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings
* Assists with in-service training of school personnel
* Conducts appropriate research
* Keeps abreast of new developments in the field
