  • Define and promote program mission, vision, and aims that are in alignment with the Sponsoring Institution and the needs of the community which the program serves.
  • Ensure a professional and supportive clinical training and educational work environment that promotes the mission, vision, and aims of the residency program at each participating site.
  • Create, implement, and maintain program policies in accordance with the Sponsoring Institution's policies and procedures, ACGME requirements, and evidence-based approaches within your specialty.
  • Recruit, appoint, and retain program leadership (Associate Program Director, Core Faculty, Subspecialty Education Coordinators) in accordance with ACGME requirements.
  • Recruit, appoint, and retain quality physicians as teaching faculty to supervise, train, and mentor residents at each participating site.
  • Recruit, appoint, and retain a program coordinator in accordance with ACGME requirements.
  • Ensure that program leadership and faculty maintain qualifications for their appointed role and perform duties and responsibilities as agreed.
  • Participate in recurring Graduate Medical Education committee (GMEC) meetings if appointed by the DIO.
  • Appoint members to, participate in, and ensure ACGME-compliance for all activities within and resulting from the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC). This committee must meet, at minimum, twice per year in the first year of program operations and once annually thereafter.
  • Appoint members to, participate in, and ensure ACGME-compliance for all activities within and resulting from the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC). This committee must meet, at minimum, twice per year.
  • Identify, achieve GMEC approval of, and maintain quality training experiences in each participating site.
  • Appoint a Site Director for each participating site.
  • Maintain program letters of agreements for each required participating site as determined by ACGME requirements and/or the DIO.
  • Ensure training experiences at each participating site are sufficient in meeting the educational goals and objectives for the assigned rotation and resident.
  • Ensure each faculty's performance is evaluated and reviewed with them on an annual basis.
  • Mentor, coach and, if necessary, remove and replace faculty from the program that do not maintain qualifications or perform their appointed duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Recruit, select, and interview candidates in alignment with ACGME requirements, institutional policies and procedures, and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Communication Policy.
  • Participate in and abide by the NRMP "All-In" Policy for appointment of residents through the NRMP MATCH.

  • Be available to interview candidates on interview days, which are annually October - February. This is generally a 4-hour commitment each interview day, depending on the number of interviewees for a given day.

  • Ensure residents abide by the Sponsoring Institution and program policies and procedures.
  • Monitor residents' performance to ensure learning needs are being met and, when necessary, implement performance improvement plans for residents who need additional support.
  • Ensure residents are reporting concerns, issues, and opportunities for improvement without fear of or receipt of intimidation or retaliation from others.
  • Ensure an organized and well-attended didactic/educational activity schedule that includes but is not limited to Journal Club, Grand Rounds, Morbidity & Mortality (M&M), Simulation, small and large group discussions, workshops, and any other series, topic, or activity required by the ACGME.
  • Ensure faculty and residents are demonstrative of lifelong learning practices through participation in didactic/educational activities, local/regional/national conferences, and hospital or clinic committees.
  • Ensure faculty and residents are demonstrative of scholarly inquiry through documented presentation of scholarly activity and/or quality improvement outcomes (poster, printed, peer-reviewed, oral, etc.).
  • Role model lifelong learning and scholarly inquiry through participation in and presentation at both program- and sponsor-level didactic/educational activities and local/regional/national conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and complete information within New Innovations in alignment with the Sponsoring Institutions' Policies and Procedures.
  • Report accurate and complete information to the ACGME in alignment with the Sponsoring Institution's and the ACGME's instruction and requirements.
  • Learn and actively seek improved understanding of ACGME accreditation and operational requirements, including monitoring current trends and anticipating changes.
  • Effectively collaborate with the Sponsoring Institution to assure efficient, and fiscally responsible program operations each academic year.
  • Submit reports to GMEC as required.
