What will you do as a PMC Sleep Tech
As a PMC Sleep Tech, you will serve as an essential part of the patient's experience by providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, or patient care and education.
A shift in the life of a PMC Sleep Tech may include:
- Explaining pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
- Preparing and calibrating equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
- Appling electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Performing appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
- Performing positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
- Following procedural protocols [such as the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure the collection of appropriate data.
- Following "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.)
- Performing Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.
- Documenting routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Implementing appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc).
- Scoring sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) according to center-specific protocols.
- Generating accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Performing routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
- Evaluating sleep study-related equipment and inventory.
- Responding to study participants' procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent
- BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain BLS within 90 days of hire required.
- Licensed as a Polysomnographic Technologist in the State of North Carolina.
Experience:
- Previous Polysomnographic Technologist experience preferred.
