PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide services to students under the supervision of certified school psychologists. The focus of the internship is to develop and apply essential professional skills across multiple settings working with a diverse population. Under the supervision, School Psychologist Interns will employ a variety of assessments, interventions and consultation methods utilized in an education setting and school psychology. Interns will be prepared to practice at an early career School Psychologist level by the completion of the internship.

REPORTS TO: Team Lead School Psychologist

REQUIREMENTS:

* Educational Level: Possess and maintain valid and appropriate credentialing requirements of district, state and university for School Psychologist Intern level position


* Valid State Certificate in progress: S5, S6 or DD7


* Proficient Skills: Excellent Communication Skills (written and oral), Collaboration and Organization



ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

* Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance in person.


* Remains on track to meet district, state and university requirements for certification and mastery of skills in assessment, counseling, consultation, and programming.


* Integrates multiple sources of data to make appropriate recommendations, identify interventions and select and administer appropriate assessment instruments.


* Adheres to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission's Code of Ethics for Educators, all Board policies and regulations, and all local school procedures in a supportive, positive manner.


* Under supervision, provides consultative support to parents/guardians, teachers and administrators.


* Participates in department meetings, professional learning opportunities and professional learning communities as designated by supervisor.


* Participates in planning and conducting professional learning for staff and families as assigned.


* Participates in SST and/or IEP meetings to assist parents and teams in understanding the nature of a student's challenges and recommendations for support.


* Under supervision, selects and administers appropriate assessments in response to referrals for psychological evaluations.


* Under supervision, conducts individual psychological assessments within prescribed timelines.


* Under supervision, prepares written reports of psychological assessments within prescribed timelines.


* Completes and communicates written reports/evaluations from psychological assessments by providing results and recommendations in a manner that is thorough and easily understood by both professionals and lay persons.


* Under supervision, provides guidance as needed to PEC Specialists and/or case managers with discussion and completion of reevaluation determination review requirements for IEP meetings, as appropriate.


* Demonstrates knowledge of due process, confidentiality, and other legal enablement or constraints.


* Serves as an ad hoc member of the Student Support Team and 504 Plan Team as needed. Collaborates with PEC Specialist and SST/MTSS Coordinator to ensure PECS or School Psychologist attends at all SST meetings in which an IDEA referral is being recommended.


* Serves as a source of information and assistance to the community, other agencies, and the school administration on psycho-educational matters.


* Under supervision and after training, serves as a member of a School Crisis Assistance Team (SCAT) to provide support to schools in crisis.


* Refers students or families for necessary medical, mental health, or substance abuse services to the appropriate school personnel as needed.


* Works collaboratively with the PEC Specialist by providing input in the development of eligibility reports as appropriate.


* Monitor progress of psychological assessments through oversight of testing logs as maintained by PEC Specialists at assigned schools.


* Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
