Notre Dame AmeriCorps believes that education is the fundamental tool in the struggle for human dignity, self-esteem and self-determination. We seek to build community among our members, as well as the people we serve, by reaching across culture and class. We are committed to helping people help themselves. AmeriCorps members commit to a year of full-time service in a variety of areas: small groups and one-on-one instruction in elementary, middle and high schools; after school enrichment programs; adult education in GED, ESOL, job readiness and literacy programs; educational support in domestic violence and homeless shelters; recurring mentoring for at-risk students Visit www.ndmva.org for more information on our program. Member Duties : NDA Chicago partners with elementary and middle schools, after-school programs, and community centers. Each site has a unique service description with members assisting in the classroom, serving as academic interventionists, providing additional support in after-school programs, leading computer literacy classes, as well providing graduate support and counseling. Members also attend bi-weekly team trainings and participate in a number of service projects in the communities where they serve.
