Position Purpose

Embeds, cuts and stains tissue for histological examination

Job Duties

* Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures. Ensures tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. Cutting paraffin embedded tissues (human and animal) and cryosections by the microtome
* Prepares and performs routine staining techniques (e.g Hematoxylin and Eosin and immunostaining).
* Operates instrumentation for tissue dehydration, section clearing, impregnation with paraffin, cutting tissue sections, and staining of slides
* Prepares solutions, stains, and reagents in accordance with standards written procedures
* Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in a proper state of readiness, cleanliness. The Histotechnologist must be familiar with all laboratory policies and procedures. The position is also responsible for the maintenance of the histology area by maintaining inventory and supplies, cleaning and organizing of work stations, disposal of biological waste, adherence to all compliance and operational procedures.
* Performs routine maintenance on all instrumentation and attends continuing education sessions as required
