Behavioral Programming Technician

Employees in this position work directly with persons residing in various divisions at Murdoch on areas of need identified by the treatment team, with an emphasis on developing adaptive skills while reducing maladaptive behaviors. The Behavioral Programming Technician completes behavioral assessments via observations in a variety of settings and provides instruction for development of adaptive skills using established task analysis techniques located within Murdoch Center Program Library. BPT's also collect data regarding specific behaviors and responses, write progress notes in behavioral terms, and share learned information and suggestions with pertinent treatment team members.
Scheduled work hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, but occasional work outside of these times and on weekends may be required.

* Knowledge of characteristics of people with intellectual developmental disorders (IDD, Intellectual Disability).
* Knowledge and experience in assisting people with IDD to develop adaptive skills using methods such as shaping, backward chaining, Murdoch Center Program Library methods,or other structured training methodologies.
* Experience applying behavior management techniques such as those described in a behavior plan.
* Experience using observation skills necessary to accurately record behavioral contingencies for evaluation of behavior.
Management Preferences:
* Ability to communicate effectively with direct care staff and with division management.
* Persons with training, education, and experience in applied behavior analysis with people who have IDD.
* Persons with a demonstrated history of successfully establishing rapport with and relating to population served.
* Persons with experience working with people with IDD at different skill levels.
* Persons with knowledge of therapeutic interventions and certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
* Persons with a history of successfully providing both positive and corrective feedback to direct care staff.
* Flexibility to be reassigned according to department or division needs.

Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of instruction experience, two years of which must havebeen in instruction work requiring goal writing and application of behavioral management techniques at the levelequivalent to the Educational/Developmental Assistant or Health Care Technician II;
OR
An associate degree in mental health or child development program which includes a six-month practicum/internship ina similar setting, and one year of the above experience (one year of the above experience may be substituted for the practicum);
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
