The Litigation Specialist is responsible for handling all assigned litigation files and supervising defense attorneys assigned to claim files. This position participates in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.

What You'll Do

* Communicates by phone, written correspondence, and in person with attorneys on the defense and settlement of litigated claim files
* Attends mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences
* Drafts and communicates coverage determinations with the insured and other appropriate stakeholders
* Reviews claim files for proper claim handling, reserving, and coverage
* Conducts litigated claim file audits throughout the year
* Completes reporting and updates to reinsurance, errors and emissions, and stakeholders on reportable claims
* Attends company claim meetings and seminars
* Responds to Department of Insurance complaints
* Completes attorney evaluations on closed litigated claim files
* Conducts annual attorney performance review meetings with attorneys
* Responds to attorney questions on billing and rate increase requests
* Defers questions pertaining to claim procedures and guidelines to superiors
* Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

Education & Experience

Required

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
* Typically requires 7+ years of industry experience

Preferred or Specialized

* Juris Doctor degree preferred
* Prior P&C claim handling experience preferred

Certifications & Licenses

* Associate in Claims (AIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to:

* Listen, define, write, explain, and interpret ideas and policies
* Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
* Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
* Work evenings, nights, and/or weekends as necessary
* Work comfortably in a fast-paced work environment
* Process and handle confidential information with discretion
* Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Demonstrated skill in:

* Completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
* Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

Demonstrated knowledge of:

* The Unfair Claim Practice Act and its requirements
