* Seton Medical Center Harker Heights is an 83-bed acute care hospital offering services such as Cardiology, Emergency Services and a Level IV Trauma Designated ER, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Total Joint Replacement, Gastroenterology, Diagnostic Services and more.

Responsibilities

* Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
* Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
* Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
* Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
* Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
* Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
* Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
* Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
* Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
* Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
* Responsible for other duties as assigned.
* Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
* Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conduct improvement.
* Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
* Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
* Performs laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
* Assists with hiring and training new staff members
* Ensures department documentation is complaint with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
* Ensures the department is in working order as assigned.
* Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
* Leads and participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, proficiency testing and staff scheduling when assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

* Baccalaureate Degree OR Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
* Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
* ASCP or equivalent
* Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
* Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
* If certification does lapse, job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated.:




* Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Tech within a clinical laboratory.

Preferred Job Requirements:

* Five (5) years clinical laboratory experience
