Banner University Medical Center, Tucson, respiratory department is currently looking for Part-Time Respiratory Services Equipment Aide, working 20 hours per week, to join our day shift team.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position cleans and maintains a variety of Respiratory Equipment and supplies.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Cleans and disinfects dirty equipment and stocks departmental shelves in a timely manner. Performs all tasks in strict adherence to Universal Precautions. Assures that the equipment processing area meets all regulatory compliance codes. Receives discontinued equipment and appropriately disassembles and distributes items for cleaning, disinfecting, maintenance and/or repair. Cleans returned equipment by washing and drying according to established procedures utilizing specialized disinfecting equipment and chemical disinfecting systems. Exercises care in the use of proper solutions such as bleach, hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol solutions, and hospital approved cleaning products. Exercises proper techniques and handling of equipment such as microprocessors and equipment dryers. Properly assembles and performs advanced safety checks on all adult, pediatric and neonatal microprocessor mechanical ventilators. Completes pre-use check of equipment; troubleshoots and corrects failures. Cleans PFT lab equipment and prepares for use.

2. Performs daily "SUPPLY ROUNDS," restocking ICU and departmental supply areas with disposable and non-disposable items as needed. Performs daily "DISCONTINUED EQUIPMENT ROOMS ROUNDS," checking utility rooms on patient care floors for respiratory therapy equipment and removes per department policy in order to reduce unnecessary rentals. Performs daily "EQUIPMENT LOCATION ROUNDS," checking the location of equipment that's listed on the Workload List in order to reduce unnecessary rentals. Assists respiratory therapists with equipment needs throughout shift.

3. Works in conjunction with Clinical Engineering to ensure prompt adherence to preventative maintenance (PM) schedules and any other maintenance needs deemed appropriate by the Clinical Engineering or Respiratory Care Services departments. Obtains and maintains knowledge of all equipment used to provide respiratory care and supports maintenance schedules. Prepares broken or malfunctioning equipment for repair by Clinical Engineering or outside vendors. Includes proper labeling of device failure to include preliminary troubleshooting efforts and results. Reports efforts to the Technical Specialist. Assist with the annual capital equipment and supplies inventory. Performs other special projects as directed by department director and Technical Specialist.

4. Assists in the procurement and delivery of supplies from hospital warehouse and outside vendors using existing ordering systems. Obtains supplies for the department using external and internal vendors. Performs internal infection control duties in all areas where equipment is stored, prepared or used. Consistently maintains cleanliness of work and storage areas and areas where supplies are prepared for patient use. Ensures that equipment areas are clearly labeled for new or spare parts. Performs inventory of cylinder medical gases according to schedule set by director. Performs inventory of disposable and non-disposable patient care items, spare equipment parts, cleaning supplies, cleaning solutions and linens according to schedule set by director. Requisitions parts, supplies, equipment and gases. Receives and restocks supply storerooms with delivered goods.

5. Works independently to provide excellent patient care through support of equipment maintenance. Internal may customers include patients, clinical staff, engineers, and physicians. External customers may include patient family and equipment vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge with the ability to perform labor intensive work on a daily basis.

Requires knowledge of JCAHO standards for oxygen equipment. Knowledge of personal protective equipment and how to follow appropriate safety precautions at all times. Skill in a variety of routine or emergency repairs and preventative maintenance. Ability to calibrate and repair equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prefer two years of experience in working in the preparation of medical supplies and equipment.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
