6am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND completion of at least one year (two semesters) of college science courses or one year of experience in a clinical laboratory (preferred)
  • Conversant in medical terminology
  • Phlebotomist experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receives and triages all incoming clinical laboratory telephone calls
  • Receives & sorts specimens, including blood, bodily fluid, and tissue
  • Prioritizes work based on patient type & sample priority
  • Evaluates specimens and orders for correct identification & labelling and suitability for testing
  • Follows established best practices for each specimen to ensure patients, orders, and specimens are always identified and labelled correctly
  • Prepares specimens for testing by centrifuging, aliquoting, and labelling
  • Prepares specimens for transport, storage, and delivery to designated testing lab
  • Uses a computer to verify sample collection information and to enter and retrieve patient test data
  • Tracks specimens & work pending lists to identify and follow up on incomplete tests & problems
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies, replenishing stock as needed
  • Resolves problems by taking appropriate actions as dictated by the circumstances
  • Communicates effectively in-person, via the telephone, & via email
  • Will perform outpatient lab phlebotomy and receptionist duties as well
