JOB SUMMARY:

Using prescribed procedures, will receive, check, handle, store, and prepare raw materials for manufacturing and finished goods for shipment to the customer. Prepare and issue raw materials for production areas and throughout Lm Manufacturing. Ensures that all machines are kept supplied. Will use all types of material handling equipment to load and unload trailers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties below will be performed at different degrees dependent upon the assigned team (Receiving, Shipping, or Floor). The duties must be performed with a high degree of accuracy and concern for meeting our internal and external customer delivery requirements. Responsibilities include hi-lo operation, material handling and inspection. This position is required to support manufacturing operations including overtime.

  • Practice and maintain safe work habits and conditions (using trailer jack, wheel chocks, personal protective equipment per company requirements, etc.) Follows daily hi-lo safety checklist.
  • Operates lift truck and other material moving equipment; reports any abnormal functions of equipment. Recharges batteries. Should be mechanically inclined to the point that the hi-lo and equipment is kept serviceable and reports all malfunctions of equipment to supervisor.
  • Follows production schedules in keeping materials and other supplies in flow: Picks and delivers necessary component parts for each operation.
  • Checks finished parts to be sure proper labeling procedures and stacking methods are followed. Adds additional identification as necessary.
  • Organizes and maintains repaired, salvaged, or returned parts in an orderly manner per established procedures.
  • Maintains ongoing housekeeping of all plant areas.
  • Transport raw materials and supplies from receiving area to warehouse or work-in-process areas (point of use storage areas).
  • Assists support personnel with hi-lo and material/equipment movement as needed.

  • Passes MIOSHA test and follows all Lm Manufacturing and Federal rules and procedures for glass handling, material handling, and other safety procedures.
  • Loading and unloading materials off trailers with multiple destinations in proper order with even distribution of loads.
  • Checking packing slips to verify shipments and deliveries; check condition and quantity to determine if specific follow-up is needed.
  • Provides communication link to ensure special expediting to complete task of material availability.
  • Stores, receives finished goods and rotation of materials and supplies to prevent minimum loss due to obsolescence, deterioration, and destruction using proper FIFO (first in, first out)
  • Storage of raw materials and supplies to make the best utilization of space available.
  • Ensure pallet loads are properly stacked, banded, wrapped, and loaded to prevent loss or damage in transit and assures quantities, packaging and labeling is complete and accurate.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of records, transactions, also documentation involved in the receipt, storage, shipping, and transfers of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain control of inventory processing to achieve 98+% inventory accuracy. Helps support daily cycle counting and identifies causes of inaccuracies. Operates required electronic inventory systems to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Consult with your Supervisor or designee if you are not 100% sure of how to perform tasks.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures./
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
  • Takes an active part in the division's safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division's safety goals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Training time is 90 days.

1. Able to complete approved lift truck training program and pass the retesting requirements every 3 years.
2. Must have proven work record establishing ability and competence in:

a. Planning and following work schedule and prescribed procedures.
b. Working independently without direct supervision.
c. Initiative and organization skills
3. Must have demonstrated skills and competence in:
a. interaction/interpersonal skills
b. general math - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
c. operation of all material handling equipment
4. Able to do necessary lifting and moving cartons and material 50 - 100 lbs and move 55 gallon drums, up to 700 lbs with a hand truck.
5. Able to maintain accurate records.

6. Skills and ability to learn to operate CRT, PCs, Radio Frequency terminal, and required computerized material record keeping systems.

7. Able to work flexible hours as required by work schedules.

8. Able to work as a team to support the manufacturing, shipping and receiving areas; the emphasis is on the team performance not the individual performance. Hence, they must be aware of each other's limitations and assist each other to achieve effective material movement.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Work performed in a manufacturing plant/office environment. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Continuously walks, stands, grips/grasps, pushes/pulls, bends/stoops, crouches, and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs. within the manufacturing plant environment. Occasionally may carry up to fifty (50) lbs. Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays.
