Position Title: Academic Support Coach

Reports To: Academy Director

Employment Type: This position is full-time and funded through Title 1 funds. Employment is contingent on the yearly categorical allocation from Clark County School District.

Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Years of Experience: At least 1-3 years of relevant teaching experience
  • Certification: Secondary Nevada teaching credential REQUIRED
    • ELL endorsement is highly preferred
  • Background Check: Demonstration of a clear state and federal criminal history

Job Expectations

Academic Support Coaches serve as a learning resource for our Graduation Candidates (GC), collaborating with Content Coaches to (1) teach a competency-based blended curriculum in which GCs demonstrate proficiency through summative assessments, (2) Develop supplemental lessons and provide interventions that support GCs proficiency in reading and writing across all content areas (3) Work closely with GCs that are making minimal progress in ELA to fill academic gaps.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide supplemental support for GCs in enrolled- orientation phase (1st class) to ensure they have comfortability with Edmentum curriculum platform and a strong and supportive transition to Clark County Acceleration Academy systems and expectations
  • Administer the GPI, reading and math diagnostics to all incoming GCs
  • Aggregate results and create groups to provide both academic and non-academic intervention to eliminate GCs' barriers to success as a Tier II intervention
  • Provide one to one tutorial and customized lessons to help fill academic gaps so GCs can meet grade level standards
  • Monitor GCs' progress daily to ensure the are on pace to complete 33% of their course each week and have engagement of 80% or higher each week with a 20% completion rate for course
  • Curate results of Reading (lexile) and Math diagnostics on spreadsheet to allow for individual Content Coach coaching and differentiation for each GC
  • Provide each GC with a Weekly Progress Report with all parents of minors linked into the report in addition to Sensei access
  • Serve as an ongoing support in transitions for GCs as they matriculate through the program
  • Participate in all academy huddles, professional development and events.

Job Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the following:
    • Google Workspace
    • Mobile Technologies (i.e. smartphones, tablets, etc. )
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS)
    • Student Information Systems (SIS)
  • Prior experience as a teacher, teaching assistant, paraprofessional, or other related education field
  • Excellent listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Superior time-management, organizational skills, and accurate record keeping
  • Upholds policies and follows guidelines and procedures
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a professional demeanor
  • Develops positive rapport with staff, GCs, and the Acceleration Academy community
  • Respects personal privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
  • Displays ability to diplomatically diffuse tension and deal with intense situations

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a commitment and passion for supporting youth who have disengaged from a traditional school setting, by creating opportunities for academic and personal breakthroughs
  • Experience with any of the following:
    • Differentiated small group instruction; strategies for supporting ELL students; Knowledge of Thinking Maps and other tools that support writing across the curriculum; project-based learning, instructional coaching, portfolio assessment, a competency-based education model, collaborative learning, integration of technology and cross-disciplinary learning, alternative assessments and integrating school to career experiences into the curriculum
  • Experience working in a non-traditional school setting and/or with youth who may be considered at-risk
  • Basic understanding of ESE (Exceptional Student Education), ELL (English Language Learner), and behavior intervention strategies
