HARNETT AREA RURAL TRANSIT SYSTEMS (HARTS) IS NOW HIRING
HARTS is a Community Transportation program that serves both human service consumers as well as the general public. As aparatransitservice and aridesharingpublic transportation system, HARTS enables routes and schedules to be structured to transport multiple passengers to various destinations. Service is provided curb-to-curb. Services provided are medical, personal, human service, employment, and education.
The goal of HARTS is to provide the citizens ofHarnettCounty transportation services that are efficient, safe, and effective. HARTS wants to make transportation work for all of our citizens.
Hours of operations are from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Scheduled shift hours are 4:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00pm to 6:00pm.
Saturdays 3:00am to 1:00pm and 4:00am to 6:30pm
HARTS is currently recruiting for Transit Drivers to provide transportation to elderly and disabled citizens of all ages to and from medical appointments, sheltered workshops, daycare, and various County programs and services. Work includes following an assigned route, assisting passengers using the services, collecting funds for services, maintaining records, and maintaining the vehicles.
This employee will also monitor and report status and any needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation; maintain first aid supplies and fire suppression equipment on the vehicles; record mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms, and wireless devices; assist passengers with seat belts, getting in and out of vehicles as needed and required; maintain interior and exterior vehiclecleanliness; operate wheelchair lift and secure mobility aids as required; other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
* Inspects vehicle prior to driving.
* Drives and operates vehicles on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
* Uses discretion to determine order of passenger pick-up and delivery.
* Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
* Maintains first aid supplies and operates fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
* Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
* Collects and keeps account of fares; prepares receipts for monies collected.
* Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
* Ensures the vehicle is clean and free of litter.
* Fuels vehicle used.
* Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
* Checks passengers returning from medical appointments for any signs of bleeding.
* Re-inspects vehicle after use; notes and reports any issues/concerns.
* Works a flexible and irregular schedule; assists on a variety of established routes that may vary on a daily basis; and is subject to emergency call-backs.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
* High school diploma or equivalent;
* No experience required, however some public driving experience is desired;
* Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
* Possession of a good driving record is required.
* Possession of a Certification in CPR is desired.
* Possession of a Certification in First Aid desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of the geographical layout of the County and surrounding counties.
* Knowledge of the needs and behaviors of clients served.
* Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of vehicles.
* Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
* Skill in communicating, both orally and in writing.
* Skill in operating vans, cars, and buses safely.
* Skill in using a computer.
* Ability to work effectively with special populations.
* Ability to maintain and keep accurate records and reports, including electronic data.
* Ability to operate radio and other communications equipment as well as computers.
* Ability to read a map.
* Ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
* Ability to use firmness and tact with children, mentally disabled, and other passengers who may become unruly.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the elderly, children, handicapped, the general public, and other employees.
* Ability to learn transportation and time keeping software
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform light work frequently exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, climbing, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, kneeling, using mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, shouting to be heard above ambient noise, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to operate vehicles safety, do visual vehicle inspections, operate wheel chair lifts, and maintain records.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, fumes, and gases. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids, thus the work is subject to OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens. Requires working a flexible and sometimes irregular schedule. Work may require emergency call-backs.
Successful completion of a drug screening and criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as required by the Federal Transportation Agency (FTA).
