Description

Boulder CountyCoroners Officeis seeking to hire a Coroner Technician.The Coroner Technician is responsible for the day-to-day assistance to the Administration Unit of the Boulder County Coroner's Office. This position performs a variety of routine and complex administrative support duties.

Complexity/Responsibility: This role requires critical thinking to perform routine, non-routine, confidential, and complex tasks unique to the Coroner's Office. The Coroner Technician must work well in a team environment. Work involves a variety of sensitive and highly confidential material. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, compassionate, enjoys working with spreadsheets and invoicing, and comfortable working with bereaved persons.

The Coroner Technician is a representative of the Boulder County Coroner's Office and is involved in a variety of interpersonal contacts. Such contacts require a high degree of communication skills, professionalism, tact, discretion, etiquette, and compassion. Contacts may include but are not limited to: Boulder County personnel, bereaved family and friends, vendors, public safety personnel, mortuary staff, medical staff, state agencies, and members of the media.

This is a hourly, non-benefitedposition. This position will workMonday - Fridaybetween8:00am-4:00pm averaging 15hours per week, based on unit need. This position will work 5610 Flatiron Parkway,Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt(eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $23.23Hourly

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

* Phone Screening: Week of May 23rd
* First Round Interviews: Week of June 4th
* Reference Check: Week of June 5th

Examples of Duties

The following duties illustrate many of the essential functions of the job but is not an all-inclusive list. While working under the direct supervision of the Administrative Deputy Coroner:

* Assist the Administrative Deputy Coroner with administrative support tasks, including projects of a complex, technical, or confidential nature
* Perform a wide range of general clerical tasks accurately and efficiently
* Field general inquiries about the Coroner's Office operations via phone, email, and in-person interactions
* Operate office equipment such as personal computers, photocopiers, scanners, and other related devices
* Receive, organize, and process invoices and P-card transactions
* Prepare, maintain, review, and verify routine or specialized reports and records using software like Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office products, including Power BI
* Develop and maintain efficient filing systems using Microsoft Teams
* Apply state statutes and related policies and procedures within the Coroner's Office regarding records control and management
* Monitor various supplies, conduct inventories, and prepare order requests
* Manage multiple email inboxes efficiently using strong Microsoft Outlook email management skills, ensuring timely and accurate responses
* Utilize Microsoft Outlook calendaring skills to schedule appointments, arrange meetings, and maintain calendars
* Respond to inquiries from community members with professionalism and compassion while adhering to established policies

Additional Duties:

* Proficiently use virtual meeting platforms such as Teams, Zoom, and Webex.
* Adapt to varying situations with the public and service partners.
* Provide specific information on the responsibilities of the Coroner's Office as needed.
* Help maintain clean and organized common work areas.
* Assist in managing clerical organization during mass fatalities disasters.

Other Job-Related Duties:

* Develop and maintain working relationships with various law enforcement agencies, other local, state, and federal agencies, and mortuaries.
* Problem solves situations based on experience and policies of the Coroner's Office.
* Performs related work, as required
* May be reassigned during emergency situations

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of High School diploma or equivalent and 3years of experience processing invoices, managing supplies, managing calendars and multiple email inboxes, and virtual meeting platforms. Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Must have experience with Microsoft office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Supplemental Information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Associate degree in accounting/bookkeeping, or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience working with a coroner or medical examiner's office, or other related experience such as a mortuary, public safety, health care, etc.
* Experience working with bereaved families.
* Bilingual or multilingual skills.

* Knowledge of basic office procedures and practices, including proper telephone etiquette.
* Ability to operate office equipment.
* Skill to work effectively with other employees, agencies, and the public.

* Proficient use of software programs such as Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Forms, Bookings, and other software applications.
* Able to perform record-keeping and filing.
* Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
* Able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
* Able to perform varied clerical tasks under a variety of circumstances.
* Able to handle confidential and/or unpleasant information.
* Able to learn and retain knowledge of policies and procedures.
* Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
* Able to apply critical thinking in daily work situations.
* Able to perform workplace mathematics in relation to statistical reports and control of money.
* Typing speed of 40 words per minute minimum.
