Dermatology Technician

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: Assisting in medical care of patients and supporting front desk functions as needed under the direction of the physician and charge nurse/office manager.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-CARE commitments
* Maintains current CPR certification, American Medical Technologist or National Healthcare Certification.
* Knowledge regarding location of emergency equipment/supplies and how to use such equipment/supplies.
* Familiar with the Health First Emergency Kardex and responsibilities as a Health First associate.
* Knowledge of sterile techniques in instrument preparation, calibration, and use.

Quality/No Harm:

* Appropriately performs patient triage, assists physician with office procedures and accurately document patient data.
* Room and discharge patient
* Provide accurate and timely Blu Light and assures prompt documentation.
* Procedure and surgery prepping
* Suture removals and wound checks/dressing changes
* Assist provider with procedures: laser and surgical.
* Ability to perform basic computer skills pertinent to job performance
* Document discussions between patient and provider.
* Provide pathology reports.

Customer Experience:

* Demonstrates and maintains working knowledge of front desk procedures and assists in these functions when dictated by workload.
* Communicates effectively with customers (patients, physicians, and other Health First Associates), practicing excellent customer relation skills at all times while organizing and directing daily medical technician functions.
* Ensures that all exam rooms and equipment are stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next patient.
* Mentors co-workers and students technical development.
* Schedules patient surgeries.
* Able to assist patients with scheduling questions by accessing the scheduling system and ability to print needed information.
* Provide patient follow up to ensure patients participation in their care.
* Provide procedure and surgery pre-op and post-op education.

Stewardship:

* Coordinates medical supply ordering with practice manager.
* Utilizes supplies/equipment in a proficient and cost effective manner when performing various procedures.
* Completes all required documentation and /or required forms.
* Demonstrates effective time management skills.
* Remains flexible and adaptable to changes in workflow, processes, etc.
* Accepts changes to the schedule or workflow based on patient volumes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High school graduate or equivalent required.
* Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider completion card prior to start date and maintain.
* Certification through ACDT required within 90 days of hire.
* Ability to use and operate computer proficiency required.
* Good organizational and communication skills required.
* Knowledge of dermatology terminology and abbreviations preferred.
* Prior dermatology office experience a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for up to 12 hours, generally with 2-3 short breaks.
* Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and transfer patients from wheelchair or standing position to exam table; correct body mechanics necessary to avoid injury to patient or self.
* Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

* Ability to work in stressful environments.
* Ability to assess quickly, interpret data, assists physician in care and education of patients of various ages and levels of understanding.
* Demonstrates leadership ability and flexibility.
* Demonstrates knowledge of exposure to bio hazardous waste, MSDS substances.
