JOB SUMMARY
Performs sleep studies under the supervision of a licensed physician. Performs tests and collects data on patients with sleep disorders. Responsible for giving patients explanations of the impending sleep tests and procedures, preparing equipment for the procedures, recording activities and analyzing results.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Department Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of an approved polysomnographic training program
Work Experience
Experience working in a healthcare clinical environment preferred.
License/Certification
Current BLS or CPR required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Explains test procedures and sleep studies to patient
Applies electrodes and sensors, calibrates equipment
Ensures proper fitting of the positive airways pressure mask.
Performs sleep study tests.
Records and prepares studies for interpretation.
Studies disorders of patients with disruptive sleep patterns.
Sets up, maintains, and monitors mechanical breathing apparatus-respirators.
Follows all safety rules applying to gas cylinders, ventilators, and all electrical equipment.
OTHER DUTIES
Performs other related duties as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Prolonged periods of standing and walking
Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.
Must be able to see with corrective eye wear
Must be able to hear clearly with assistance
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations
May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary
Transferring, repositioning patients.
Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.
Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
