The staff psychiatrist is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring to include but not limited to effects, side effects, labs and aims. The staff psychiatrist will coordinate treatment with a multidisciplinary team and adhere to recognized ethical standards and applicable regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Provides direct psychiatric services to consumers assigned, including comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment.
  • Completes initial and annual psychiatric evaluation for each consumer assigned according to agency policy.
  • Monitors on an on-going basis consumer progress and mental status as indicated in the treatment plan; monitors prescribed medications as determined by clinical need, assess abnormal involuntary movements.
  • Informs and educates the consumer (either directly or through the treatment team) on the relationship between psychological and physical health issues, appropriate use of psychotropic medications, their side effects, toxicity, relationship and interaction with the use of illegal substances and alcohol.
  • Participates in the multidisciplinary team via team meetings, formal or informal consultation with the treatment team to ensure that clients receive coordinated, comprehensive care.
  • Consults with medical director on a regular basis or as needed and according to agency standards.
  • Ensures that services are provided in accordance with person centered plan of service.
  • Ensures that case records are maintained in accordance with Agency and funding source requirements.
  • Receives required and appropriate training annually.
  • Adheres to ethical guidelines and standards of practice.
  • Prepares reports as assigned.
  • Participates in administrative duties as assigned, which could include being a member of or chairing committees.
  • Participates in training on the use of the electronic clinical record and utilizes the electronic medical record once training is complete.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Director.

Education and experience
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited university.
  • Experience in the treatment of persons with severe and persistent mental illness preferred.

Certification/LICENSE - Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry. Must possess and maintain a full medical license and controlled substance license in the State of Michigan, as well as a federal DEA Controlled Substance Certificate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work as part of a comprehensive community mental health team and to represent Lincoln Behavioral Services in the community.
  • Knowledge and skills in prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of computer applications or willingness to learn.
