Shift is Mon - Thurs 10 hr days for a 40 hr week with some weekends.

GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Working under the direction of the Manager, Donor Services, drives, inspects and maintains the Bloodmobile in accordance with State & Federal laws and MGB Policy. Performs QC functions and post collection handling and packing blood bags in cooler. Assists donor collections staff with donors after donation. Ensures the safety of donors and staff during bloodmobiles

Responsibilities:

* Drives the bloodmobile and staff safely to blood drive locations determined by the Manager of Donor Services.
* Inspect the vehicle before and after each blood drive ensuring operational safety. (Walk around inspection of all safety related items)
* Assess and reports any bus damage ( exterior/interior) or inoperable equipment to the Manager of Donor Services.
* Assists with inventory of bus supplies and equipment.
* When arriving at the blood drive site:

o Confirm proper parking spot with coordinator at site

o Uses leveling jacks as needed

o Place snacks out

o Performs QC and logs results for the scales and takes ambient room temperature every 4 hours.

* During the blood drive

o Mans the sealing station in the bloodmobile and heat seals tubing on blood donation bags.

o Checks that whole blood unit numbers have been placed on blood bags.

o Stores the whole blood donation properly in transport cooler.

o Reviews the donor form to check proper labels and codes have been attached.

o Offers donors refreshments after donation when they sit in refreshment area.

o May help collection staff in care of donors having adverse reaction.

* Upon return to the parking facility

o Remove trash safely following MGH SOP

o Plug bus into outlets to maintain generator

o Ensure bus is clean for next days use

* Responsible to clean the bus fully once per week including AC filters checked, refrigerator, walls, windows, donor chairs, flat surfaces, following the cleaning list
* Works with Donor Service Manager to maintain schedules and to ensure upkeep of the bloodmobiles
* Works with outside vendors to arrange appointments for bus maintenance and repairs keeping manager of Donor Services informed at all times.
* Maintains log of all repairs

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills:

* Ability to safely operate a 38 ft long bus with air brakes both within the city and on highway
* Excellent customer service and communication skills
* Ability to work in a technically oriented medical environment
* Basic computer skills
* Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people
* Maintain current trainings in accordance with MGH and MGB procedures

Requirements:

* Highschool Diploma or equivalent
* Basic CPR Licence
* Licenses:
* Commercial Class B
* Air brakes
