Cat Scan Technician

Job Overview:

RWJ Barnabas Health is looking to add a qualified CAT Scan Technician, Full Time, Evening in Somerville, NJ. The CAT Scan Technician will performs duties directly involved with a variety of CAT Scan procedures. Prioritizes the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a CT Technologist.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Experience: Three years hospital experience as a staff technologist preferred, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

* Must have State of New Jersey License and ARRT
* CT certification obtained within one year of hire.
* CPR certified or willing to obtain within six months of hire.

Scheduling Requirements:

* Evening Shift, 12:30 PM - 8 PM, Weekend Rotation, 40 hours/week
* Full-Time Schedule

Essential Functions:

* Positions patient to obtain study as prescribed by standard operating procedures.
* Able to position all anatomical parts as indicated by the Standard Operating Procedures.
* Performs the preparation in order to insure the prompt commencement of the procedure.
* Ensures all necessary equipment is at hand prior to starting the ordered examination.
* Under the direction of a Radiologist, instructs and administers cleansing preps and contrast agents.
* Protects patients and other personnel by administrating proper radiation protection techniques.
* Protects the reproductive organs with appropriate apparel, if visualization of these areas is not required.
* Transfers and properly position patients for examinations in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications
* Assists physicians in performance of examinations.
* As outlined in radiology policy and procedure and under the direction of the medical chairman the technologist will have proven competency in the administration of IV contrast media, to include venipuncture.
* Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Secures and returns supplies. Maintains room and room s stock.
* Responsible for necessary equipment maintenance recommendations and trouble shooting when indicated. Keeps all necessary equipment maintenance logs which pertain to preventative maintenance of Emergency service.
* Makes sure all necessary supplies are in room and restocks room accordingly.
* Responsible for patient scheduling and smooth flow of schedule and patient preparation including contrast administration.
* Responsible for quality control of Cat scan examinations.

Uses the computer system according to standard operating procedures:

* Able to enter studies in RIS and HIS, and track cases.
* Able to split and fix studies in PACS as necessary.
* Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary.
* Cooperates with all hospital personnel in a positive and professional manner, maintaining ethical relationships. Maintains a positive and loyal attitude towards employer.
* Rotates shifts covering weekends and on-call
* Attends in-service training as required by the department
* Able to attend the majority of educational in-services.
* Explains procedures to the patient and answers any questions prior to the commencement of the procedures.
* Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation prior to the submitting of the procedure for interpretation
* Assists in the instruction of student technologists
* Able to demonstrate technical art to the students.
* Able to evaluate student performance and fill out observation forms.
