Polysomnographic Tech, Non Registered or Registered- Childrens

The Polysomnographic Technician Non-registered is employed by Erlanger Medical Center. The non-registered technician is directly supervised by medical or registered clinical staff to perform overnight polysomnograms, MSLT's and oximetries. The incumbent operates sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. Under direct supervision, the technician develops skills and knowledge to perform complex and non-routine recordings.
Education:
Required: Successful completion of a sleep technology program, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or a minimum of six months of experience as a sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies.

BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintain going forward.

Holds a Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent.
Department Position Summary:
The Polysomnographic Technician Non-registered CH operates sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The incumbent administers oxygen and positive airway pressure devices in accordance with established protocols, applies recording devices to the patient, and performs cleaning/disinfecting of equipment. The incumbent must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs and respond with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age of the patient, with demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, posses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information to identify each patient's requirements for care. These duties will be performed under the supervision of the RPSGT or other licensed clinical staff.
The Polysomnographic Technician Non-registered has the skills and knowledge to perform complex and non-routine recordings such as nocturnal seizure testing, MSLTs, etc. The technician functions to assist and oversee the selection of a suitable course of action when necessary.
The incumbent participates in the implementation of clinical protocols, participates in the implementation of in-service education, and makes recommendations for continuing education. The technician is able to accurately and reliably stage and score polysomnogram recordings with a high degree of accuracy and prepare clinical reports for physician interpretation. The incumbent has a thorough understanding of sleep pathology and treatment options for the varying sleep disorder.
