JOB SUMMARY

This is a part-time, grant funded position, assigned to assist with lab work and maintenance related to specific scientific research projects in the biotechnology field.

MAJOR DUTIES

Gene cloning, protein purification, lab maintenance

Tissue culture and greenhouse maintenance

Working and making decisions regarding manuscript/publication information for public research release

Design and optimize experimental protocol

Analyze data and present to conferences

Interact and coordinate with undergraduate and M.S. students.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

General biotechnology laboratory protocols

Cloning and protein purification processes and procedures

Skill in tissue culture

Design and optimization of molecular biology protocol

Computer skills: MS Excel, MS Word, data handling and data entry etc.

Strong attention to detail and organization skills; must be able to document work accurately.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor assigns work in terms of goals and objectives and requires the use of much judgment. The supervisor reviews the work to check the nature and propriety of the final results of the work.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include general laboratory safety protocols, department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

Some of the work is routine and is performed under supervision, with the opportunity to make decisions and be in contact with other professionals in this line of research.The responsibility to design and optimize experimental protocol and to analyze data and present the material at conference contributes to the complexity of the work.

The purpose of this position is to provide technical laboratory support in the execution of a grant sponsored project.

Contacts are typically with co-workers; some contact with other professionals in the field may be required.

Contacts are typically to support units and to give or exchange information; to resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes their sense of smell

The work is typically performed in a laboratory setting and requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct supervision over assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of bachelor's degree

At least two years of relevant laboratory experience

Part time position $18.00 per hour

Anticipated hire date: 06/10/2024
