Position Summary
The Pharmacy Manager provides managerial support to the Director of Pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department Leadership through day-to-day departmental leadership and coordination of pharmacy workflow. The Manager will coordinate and supervise the daily activities of Pharmacy Staff, delegating assignments as necessary in accordance with established policies and procedures and maintain department productivity. This position is responsible for helping to create a patient and customer focused department in support of the delivery of exceptional patient care. The Manager will also be responsible for attracting and developing a team of highly capable, committed staff through recruiting and interviewing candidates that have a passion for patient and customer center care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
* Manages and supervises pharmacy operations including responsibility for formulating and implementing institutional policy and practices at the department level and overseeing day-to-day operations and workflow of the inpatient pharmacy department.
* Assures compliance with Pharmacy Laws and provides staff guidance when appropriate in regards to regulatory agencies including but not limited to The Joint Commission Medication Standards, National Patient Safety Goals, USP 797 and UPS 800, and participates in quality assurance activities to evaluate and maintain safe medication practices.
* Collaboratively functions in cooperation with the pharmacy leadership team in developing policies and procedures, strategic planning to efficiently and effectively meet the objectives of sound operations, quality care and service product lines.
* Directs operations in a cost-efficient manner while meeting productivity and budget expectations. (Assist with ongoing cost-containment initiatives for medication use and operations; provides other management reports as needed.)
* Evaluates, plans, develops, and implements standards and measurement tools to assess and improve staff and pharmacy operations, patient care and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Creates an atmosphere of harmony, promoting cooperative behavior and excellence in customer service.
* Demonstrates effective leadership principles through communication, planning, and teaching skills.
* Responsible for pharmacy staff development, new employee orientation, and ongoing training in the pharmacy in coordination with other pharmacy managers.
* Accountable for hiring, recruitment and retention, coaching and counseling of the pharmacy technician personnel.
* Motivates, develops, and directs staff, identifying leaders for advancement.
* Advances professional practices by participating in activities that promote professional practice though education that enhances the practice of pharmacy.
* Provides oversight of all automation technology through evaluation, planning and recommendation of new technologies to enhance pharmacy operations or pharmacy services.
Maintains effective communication which supports optimal working relationships to promote teamwork internally and externally with other departments and disciples to address customer satisfaction and promote high quality of care.
* Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
* 5 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred, or completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency Program and 4 years experience in an acute care hospital setting.
* Previous management experience preferred.
* Demonstrated experience and competency in operations improvement, clinical program and educational program development, organizational development, and financial management.
* Ability to work collaboratively, strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
* Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements for areas of responsibility (e.g. CA BOP, TJC, DHS, DEA, CMS).
Education/Licensure/Certification
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required.
* Active licensure as a registered Pharmacist in California and in good standing with the CA BOP required.
