24-25 DeKalb County HFH - Housing Action Corps - Programs

The Program Development VISTA will serve with Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County in Sycamore, IL from August 2024-2025. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County is part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County partners with local families to build affordable homes in DeKalb County, Illinois. Families receive financial education, contribute hundreds of hours to build or renovate a home, and pay an affordable mortgage. Our Home Preservation Program offers exterior home maintenance assistance for low-income families, elderly, and individuals with disabilities. We are looking for a Program Development VISTA to research and design systems for all aspects of our Home Preservation Program. They will also enhance our strategies for engaging volunteers in hands-on construction tasks by creating training and communication practices that focus on construction safety. Our ideal candidate is a go-getter who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. They should be organized and ready for a fast-paced work environment. Member Duties : The demand for affordable housing is projected to increase in the coming decade, especially for residents over the age of 65. Our Home Preservation Program plays a crucial role in preserving safe, affordable housing for low-income residents, including elderly homeowners, in DeKalb County, IL. The Program Development VISTA will build the capacity of both our Home Preservation Program and our on-site construction volunteer management. The VISTA will design systems for reviewing applications, selecting projects, recruiting volunteers, and completing home maintenance repairs that will increase the efficiency and sustainability of our Home Preservation Program. They will collaborate with the Construction Coordinator to compile and disseminate resources for training and promoting construction safety. They will also lead small groups of volunteers and monitor construction sites to assess organizational needs and evaluate the progress of their projects.
